nick17 Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I'm curious to know what you all think of the Por Larranaga Petit Coronas I have not had one yet and a thinking of trying one this weekend and if I like them I might consider getting a cabinet of 50. I have read here that some times there are lots of duds in with the Por Larranaga Petit Coronas if any one has a cabinet would you pleas share your experience with your cabinet thus far, as well how are they fresh and how long should you age them?
ramon_cojones Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I imagine if you read through some threads here you'd find your answers as they are always talked about.
tmac77 Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 PLPC's I have never had a dud, love em, smoke em whenever you feel like as they are quite nice even young
aes8 Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Smoked through several cabs. Always some duds as with any box but worth it. Buy two boxes, age one and smoke one
JY0 Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 The '08's are my favorite morning cigar...perfect with coffee.
bstarrs Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I just got a cab from the Czar last month. I've had a couple and they seem to smoke pretty well young(My box is Sep10). I noticed they were a staple for a lot of the guys here so I ordered a cab for myself. I would definitely suggest doing the same and grabbing a cab for yourself.
shrink Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Frankly, I don't know why people smoke these things young. It's not that they're bad ROTT, it's just that with four to six years or more of box age, they are transformed into caramel candy.
dicko Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 only had about a dozen "freshies" but i enjoyed them and will be buying cabs in the future as finances pick up
joeypots Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 "04s were tannic and harsh. About five years on they became smooth flavor bombs. I'm with Shrink on this, but then again I defer to Shrink on all things cigar, let them age.
riazp Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 as mentioned at nauseaum above, buy a cab, let it sit for a good while, and they will turn into caramel goodness. They are decent ROTT, but soooo much better if you let them sit for a few years
sepp Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 it's just that with four to six years or more of box age, they are transformed into caramel candy. Exactly!
Rogers72 Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 http://www.friendsofhabanos.com/forum/inde...mp;hl=LARRANAGA The above link should take you to a recent thread/poll on this cigar.
bassman Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 These really need time. As said, the 04s are just starting to get nice. Still, if I'm buying, I'll get a cab of Boli PCs. Just fits my personal taste better.
Dbone Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I do have a three year old cab and I've noticed a significant change in flavor over time, for the better. But they weren't bad fresh.
cigcars Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 *Have only had two experiences with this vitola: 1. True essence of honeyed brandywine, cuban habana wonder aroma of enjoyed excellence par excellence And 2. They keep selling out before I can get to 'em
aavkk Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Frankly, I don't know why people smoke these things young. It's not that they're bad ROTT, it's just that with four to six years or more of box age, they are transformed into caramel candy. Hence the strategic location of 2 cabs deep in the back on the bottom shelf in the humidor. The age old real estate adage of location, location and location ring true here. You just have to forget about them. These are on the list of smokes where the reward for aging far exceeds the pleasure of smoking young. Along with most Upmann's, most Cohibas, etc...
thechenman Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 The PLPC is one of the best PCs coming out of Cuba today. While you can enjoy them young, like shrink says there true potential does take years to unfold. I might even say longer than 5 years in some cases. And as aavk rightly points out though...an aged PLPC is worth the wait. The beauty is that while the PLPCs on come in 50-cabs they are still relatively affordable...so buy 2 cabs if you can swing it. One you can smoke from now, and one that you can put away for the long haul. You will get to taste how the cigars change over time from the first cab of 50, and the second cab will show you the true potential of the cigar after 5+ years of aging.
CoryOllis Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 People don't age them because they can't afford to only smoke well aged Cubans. It's a damn shame and a waste of potential but that's reality fer ya.
