gigabyte056 Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Cigar review: Monte No.2 Box code: RAO Jun 06 Paired with Nick O'Leary Shiraz from 2008 , very good wine for the money. Review date 4/6/2011 Had a long day of work in the garden so thought I should reward myself with one of the aged cigars. a Monte 2 is stellar when it's on, had a bit of fear this won't be on since the last one I smoked from this box was plugged and I gave up on it after 5 minutes. This was not the case with this puppy. Wrapper: chocolate marble... Aroma at cold: Ceder with a touch of hay Draw is perfect, used a cutter to cut on angle as per Rob's example. initial tastes are toasted coffee and spice with a leather after taste in the back of my mouth. first 1/3: Expresso with a touch of sweet cream and vanilla. maybe like a strong cappuccino with some vanila stick and Cinnamon sprinkled on it.... Second 1/3: More coffee , a bit stronger, ceder comes out and some intresting bitter sweet taste. The cinammon and vanilla are there but they slightly give way to burnt sugar. last 1/3: Cigar becomes quite strong, quite a lot of punch to it, got a very strong nicotine buzz. still coffee minus the cream, with cinnamon spice and wood/leather mix . finished in glory with some caramel after taste. I rank it at a 92. I don't usually pair cigars and red wine but the wine really went well with the cigar and the case I got will be kept for another 3 years to accompany good cigars. Well this is my first review, hope it is not subpar.
Vortigan Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 I'll second that,nice review indeed.Nothing like a Monte #2 when it's on.The very first one I had was like some kind of fine ice cream,chocolate and vanilla all over the place.Had a few let downs since.
Styler Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Sounds like a good cigar. I've had a fair few Monty 2s but I think I've just been unlucky, never had one that has matched the glowing reports I've read from various sources. Is it quite rare to find an example that's "on"?

I have had some good boxes and some bad ones. I would recommend searching for HQ and PSP boxes in the LFTH, that's a good way to strongly increase the chance of a good experience.

Dbone Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 When the #2's are on, it's some of the best Cuba has to offer. The Monte line is highly produced, so you have to take the good with some bad. My #2's are in Czar locker. Thanks for the review, it was a great first!!
