Folks

Just looking to see if anyone had any thoughts on the Selection #11, PMR Jun 05.

Any input is appreciated....

Thanks in advance for your time

Wonderfull cigars. Punch have made quite a few Corona Gorda's and IMO the RS#11 is second only to the Punch Super Selection #2's. Pity that both of these, including another one of my favorites, the Black Prince have been discontinued.

I do recall El Prez and Co. doing a video review of these at some point in time. you may want to check it out in the review section

Thanks for the reply

I just watched the 07 review....Have not been able to find any 07, but

some 05 are an option........

I have smoked through at least one cab of '05s and they were very good. Noticeably milder than the '03s and '07s but quite approachable and well worth having. My favorite Punch vitola.

I would second the thumbs up on the vitola and the 05's. I smoked through nearly a full box of them, have two left, and they have continued to improve. Mine were medium-full and quite tasty. Love this cigar.

Smoked my last 05 three days ago. Very mellow. A nice aged taste that lasted for half of the smoke. Great change of pace if you usually smoke bolder cigars.

Well Bull here I am now at home relaxed with a perrier and a sweet sweet smelling Punch RS #11 (PMR Jun 05) in my hand.

Nice construction smooth wrapper a bit of an oily sheen. Seems a bit loose in the middle and tight at the foot and cap. We will see how she goes after lighting.

Pre light Aroma: in a word: Heavenly sweet pungent barnyard smell with maybe a hint of cut dry autum grass in the background.

Cold Draw: mmm had to give it another sniff before cutting ... WOW just wonderful (caveat: I did not dry box this cigar and I had 4 pints of Kilkenny earlier today) That having been said I a mtrying to be objective here. Straight cut mmm seems a bit tight at cold draw hope there is no plug. Hay/grass on the cold draw

At first light.. a bit of sweetness at the first draw. Mild to medium strength got a bit of a bread dough right off the bat. Tight draw as I suspected. Into the first third a bit of fruitcake mixed in with a fair amount of spice. Initial spice hit died down pretty quick and now a milder smoke with not as much complexity as I am used to with this cigar. (maybe too much beer). Second third spice came back with bang, but a the rasin nut sweetness mixed in. This cigar is making a comeback with some nice leather/cedar flavours and what i believe is a bit of honey. Coming in nicely and now more to medium/rich. Into the last thrid now and this cigar is coming onto his own with the spice cedar and leather coming to the forefront and the fruitcake nut rasin flavours fading a bit. Surprisingly as i near the end of the last third it mellows out a bit more into a smooth mix white pepper/ fruitcake/ cedar and dare I say Vanilla bean. A ncie finish.

Bull: When you want to try a cigar, how many forums other than FoH and ICC do you ask before you make the purchase?

Tom, Thanks for your reply

Shots have been fired.

Campanas, When I want to try a cigar that hasn't been reviewed, I usually ask at ICC. One of the senior members sent me a PM saying that with this box code that some of the members here

were very knowledgeable....thus my post....I have found a few Brothers that share my same taste profile so look forward to their input. Is that OK..

In my experience, a particular "Matching" box code is no guarantee whatsoever of a good or similar experience to another. I have found generalities to be more true (early 06 SigloII's have smoked quite well, etc.) But to buy a box of cigars just based on an exact code and date is very little of a guarantee, IME. There are way too many variables.

That being said, my RS 11's from mid-2005 are quite good as I noted. That general data I find more relevant than codes.

I smoked a JBR MAR05 RS No. 11 this evening. A very good cigar, it showcased the signature Punch profile: a woody core, with sweet and tangy fruit essences, and some complex spices. This example was medium-bodied, but full-flavored. I would describe the cigar as quite approachable, but still somewhat unbalanced and showing some youthful tannins. This will be an outstanding smoke in 3 to 5 years.

Currently, I'm smoking mostly from '99 and '03 boxes, which are more mature. The '99s are exceptionally smooth, sweet and tangy. Based on several samples from one box, I have found the '07s to show the greatest potential, based on their strength, body, and latent complexity. But they won't be ready for a long time.
