Freestyle review of the Por Larranaga-Encantos, Regional Asia Pacifico 2010.

URG-NOV-10

Date; 23/05/2011

Paired with BOOKER'S Kentucky Straight Bourbon(126.9 Proof) Oufff !

I will admit that I jumped on these as soon as they came out at Czar's.These Encantos are simply beautiful, great construction, the draw was perfect with no soft spot. The pre-light draw left some fine sweetness on my lips with slight tones of leather.

1st Third- the cigar had sweet and creamy tastes, with leather up front with honey and wallnut flavors on the after tastes.

2nd Third- The Encantos has become mute and I'm not getting any complexe evolution. the sweetness is still present but the leather and the overall nuttiness is less noticable then on the 1st Third.I would say that at this point, the smoke is rather medium and I can not say that it has much body nor richness but is still quite creamy and enjoyable.

Last Third- At this point the cigar has taken more of a bread dough flavors with creamy notes surounded by an overall roasted tobacco finale.

I'm thinking that maybe I smoked this Encantos too young, but still, I can't say that I was overwhelmed by this Edición Regional,I'll have to see in a few months but until then, I find more rich tastes & pleasure in the Por Larranaga, Monte-Carlo then I've had with the Encantos.

If I have to give a note, it will be a 87 or 88, for now.

However, yes, they are still quite young.

we'll see .

Thank you for reading me out,

Cheers. :)

Thanks for your review and pix. I'm certainly not surprised that you weren't wowed by this one. I've never had ANY Por Larranaga, regular production or otherwise, that smoked well young. In fact, I consider a 3 or 4 year old PL young. The PL lonsdales are just getting into the zone, and the Robustos are quite smokable now.

Thanks for the review Guy, and I agree Bob the PL Robustos are just beginning to hit their stride but they are built for the long haul.

Appreciate the review Guy. Hopefully like other PLs...they will only get better with age.

Thanks. Nice review Guy!

That Bookers looks wonderful. :lookaround:

I guess I will let mine sit for now. No real hurry in any event.

Thanks for the review; got a box from Czar a couple of weeks ago. Will let them rest for 6 months.

I bought a box and smoked three so far and I thought they were fantastic. I am a big PL fan. I thought the Encantos had a similar PL profile but with a little twist. Maybe a little sweeter. Not sure but it was there. I will let the rest age but I am very glad I have a box.

Thank you

tried my first and was highly impressed by the draw, volume of smoke, flawless burn and the sweet, light flavors. Bought a box!

Had them with a rum whos name I can not remember (made of cane not mollasis and wonderful). Very nice indeed.

Guy, I'll be interested to see what these do for you at 6 months and then a year's time. If and when you touch them again in this timeline, please do update this and let us know. I'm fairly interested in these. Thanks again for sharing.

These are still in need of time - flavors are coming together but still a bit disjointed - have enjoyed three so far - 1st did not draw well, 2nd was very nice with floral sweet flavors building through the cigar, 3rd was muted - have high hopes for the rest over time.

I picked up a box a month ago with the same box code as the original reviewer's. At nearly 3 years old, I think they're starting to produce more of the signature PL flavors than perhaps they were at 6 months old. That being said, I'd also agree that they need another 1-2 years before they truly begin to shine. But they're perfectly good to smoke now if you really can't wait.

have had a few over the past couple years and these do nothing for me can't understand the following

Same here. One of the weakest PL RE IMO.

I was told that the Alemania Lonsdale was muted, thin, and lackluster in ratings when it came out too...then the complexity came about around 4 yrs after. I think these may do the same. I'd hate to find out HSA screwed the pooch on this with such a beautiful presentation.
