Guest 321contact Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Hi All, I haven't posted here yet but had a question. I recieved a box of Cohiba Siglo IV 3 days ago. It was probably in shipping for over a month. They were very dry. The wrappers look dry and dull. I smoked one today after 3 days of resting and can say it wasn't very good. Weak taste, bad draw, etc.. Halfway into the cigar I had to put it out and light up a Siglo I which was pretty good. Is it possible with lots of humidor time that these Siglo IVs could change into something decent? I know its probably wishful thinking. Maybe the delay in shipping dryed these out to the point of no return? Thanks ahead of time for any anecdotes.
el.barbudo Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 let 'em rest for a month in a 65% humidor, then try again. Did you freeze upon receipt as a beetle prevention?
Guest 321contact Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I didnt freeze them. Maybe I should? I read about how to do it but never thought about it. I also read somewhere that Habanos may freeze them prior to shipping from Cuba but maybe that not true or only partially true.
maverickdrinker Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Many different opinions of freezing vs not freezing. I freeze everything. wrap in saran wrap. 2 days in the fridge, 5 days in the freezer, 2 days in the fridge, 1 day on the counter and then straight into the humidor. I am very afraid of beetles so I take every precaution. Never had a problem with any cigars that I have frozen using the above process. Hope that this helps. If you still don't like your siglo IVs, I can take them off your hands for externination by fire, one by one.
IcedCanuck Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 You might have to leave them in your humi for a while but they should come back. If you are going to toss them I will gladly take them off your hands
TMS36 Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I have a box of IV's with an 08 code which I got last year. They were in good shape when I got them, but were terribly plugged. I let them sit for about 6 months @65% and they are smoking beautifully now.
zathan Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 321contact, your cigars are done, you can forget about them and send them to me.
El Presidente Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Give the IV's a good month to six weeks in your humidor at 65% RH. You should see a remarkable difference. If not then give them another 45 days.
