We are progressively finding out which Cuban Cigar has the highest rate of member satisfaction (and the lowest). I will run through the 30 most popular cigars during April/May and will provide an ongoing chart to see how the cigars stack up.

It should go without saying to only vote if you have actually tried one :daydream:

I've only had around 6 of them, of varrying ages, but only one was good--the oldest ('05?) and not even great. Two were decent, the others were just not nearly good enough to warrent the price.

One of my all-time favorites! Very rarely had one that didn't meet my expectations.

Nice. Got a handful from the Czar and found them a solid medium body performer. No worries.

Never had a bad one, from decent to spectacular.

I'm almost through a box, and i'll tell you what these just got better and better with age. Never had a bad MC2, even when young

I have to step in and denounce this vile weed. ;) Three out of the five I've had were not pleasant. The two that I enjoyed we just "OK". I have one more stick to try from a fellow FOH from a box he swears by. Otherwise, not a fan.

I love the Montecristo No. 2. I have a heard time deciding whether it or the Diplomaticos No. 2 is my favorite Piramide. However, that said, while there are some great examples of the Monte 2, there are horrendous samples as well. I've been unfortunate enough to experience both. Like its little brother the Montecristo No. 4, which is probably the most popular PC in terms of sales, the No. 2 is likewise for Piramides. That probably accounts for the varying quality that you find since they are produced in such large numbers to meet demand. Therefore, while I love the cigar, I had to go with "Generally an Average Experience."

*The Montecristo No. 2?? E-E-H-H-H!!! ;):2thumbs: First AUTHENTICT one I got taught me what Havana cigars are all about. It was the most spectacular cigar smoking experience I'd had since being introduced to them. The only ones before that were some authentic Saint Luis Rey churchills. THEY were a honeyed brandywine delight. Montecristo No. 2 - really, REALLY par excellence`!!

Across multiple boxes with varying age, I've never had a very bad Monte 2, nor have I had a great one. I really liked the Monte 2 until I tried the No. 3, Especiales, and Edmundos.

The reasons escape me why this cigar makes so many Top 3/5/10 Cigar lists. Nostalgia maybe? The No. 3 is a much better example of Montecristo and cheaper to boot.

Perhaps one day I will get lucky and smoke a stellar Monte 2. For now though, the Monte 2 is truly an average cigar in my book.

I struggled a bit on this one, but ended up voting for average. Never had a really bad one, but brilliance is rare. Perhaps as I progress towards the 09/10 years things will improve.

I really think you nailed it. Even guys I know who no longer buy Monte #2s because of inconsistancy will still list it amung their favorites, and get a far-off look in thier eye when they talk about the Monte #2s they used to smoke back in the day.

I'm willing to believe these used to be phenomenal cigars, that's why the Monte #2 GR inrigues me. But at some point you just have to say "these used to be good" rather than "these are good."

Again, maybe I just haven't had one from the right box or something, I don't know.

The few I have had were very good after I let them rest for a couple of years. But I hear there is much inconsistency with these because of the amount produced and the number of different places they are rolled. Since robustos are my favorite vitola, I do not purchase Monte 2's on a regular basis.

Quite varied quality over the years, but since I've been getting only HQ or PSP ones from here, nothing but chocolate goodness.

The mighty have indeed fallen. Anyone who smoked these in the 90's has no choice but to rate recent vintages disappointing. Can't remember the last great one I've had, and the best ones now are just ok. The Monte 2 is surfing the halo of past reputation. It's become the Nic Cage of Cuban cigars. Still prolific, but no longer taken seriously, and a sad far cry from performances of years gone by.

For me, overall average. When they are on they are tough to beat but their inconsistency has turned me off them over the years.

El Diablo Blanco over at CF gifted me an old school Monte 2 a few years back it was one of the top 3 cigars I've ever had. I'm sure this was a early 90's vintage. The older Monty 2s are legendary and I guess that is why people put up with the inconsistancy.

I realize this tread is about more recent production but that one cigar has me chasing the dragon while I have three boxes resting in the bottom of my coolidor.

Although I have had some stellar ones. Including a 04 box I do not even buy these any more. I would much prefer the Upmann and I have a box of VR Unicos that I will be trying soon. :)
