mbrody Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 So I got my new St. Dupont Maxijet Cutter. It is a heavy cutter and has more depth than my old Xixar. But, for the price, I feel like I got something with the heft and size. The craftmanship is top notch, and the fit/finish great. It is a spring loaded sideways guillotine. Squeeze it and it opens. Cut with it and it locks closed. It came in a fancy leather carrying case. Here it is open I pulled out a Connie 1 and looked to nip the tip as thin as I could. Here is the result: The cap was sliced off with a nice thin cut. It was mostly clean, but there are a few small raised spots/pulls of tobacco. Using a razor (as I have been lately) has allowed the thinnest, cleanest cuts. The resulting cut was very good for an attempt at a sliver clipping with a guillotine. I attribute the light bunching to the natural curve of the cap. A nice indent is revealled. The cutting action is very reassuring with a positive, precise and solid feel. Overall, I am pleased. It cut better than my basic Xixar did, but not leaps and bounds better than another guillotine I use. After all, most other cutters do generally get the job done! I do think it can cut closer than the other cutters though, but will have to experiment more to confirm. The pros were the feel, fit and finish with a great cut. The cons were the price, possibly the size (it is a little on the large size for a portable cutter compared to others). Reliability and ability to stay sharp will need to be determined. Overall, If you want to spoil yourself with a high quality tool, then I would consider this cutter. If you want a practical cutter and look for value, this is not the cutter for you. Some ratings: Precision Cut: 9/10 Fit/Finish: 10 Mechanical Action: 10 Portable Size: 7/10 Value: 6/10 PS: apologies for the low quality pics, I'm too lazy to break out the real camera!
PigFish Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Thats a nice looking cutter mate. Mind me asking the cost on that item? I love Dupont stuff and would continue to collect lighters if I had the coin today. Some of my Zino's (cutters) are wearing out and I may look into one of those. Thanks, -Piggy
mbrody Posted May 9, 2011 Author Posted May 9, 2011 Ray, $149.99 at Cigarmony.com I also used the FOH discount promo for another 5% off. Mods, if this is against forum rules to post the price and where I got it, tell me and I will delete...

ramon_cojones Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 To me the whole point of a double guillotine is convenience and that to me is a bit big for me in that respect. I want something portable and which works well, if not I would invest in scissors over something like that which are more elegant.
Chewz0507 Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Very nice...expensive, but very nice. That would look good on my humidor. That cut looked extremely clean.
BehikeLover2 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 mbrody, can you tell more about the (cutting)quality after almost 2 years now? thanks!
