BradNC Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 How do you smoke your cigars? What I'm referring to is if you smoke alone or always in a group or both? For me, I generally smoke alone in my converted 3rd car garage. I also generally always (put that phrase in there for Ken) watch the corresponding video from the gents at FOH for the cigar I'm smoking - sometimes more than once. Kind of makes me feel like I'm on the deck with them smoking and trying to pick out flavors with them. I then typically watch a few of the other videos even if I've seen them before. It is like attending the Ayala Institute for Cigar Aficionados for me. Am I the only one who does that while smoking?
laficion Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 I generally smoke with friends or others but I also like to smoke alone while I listen to some music or watching a film, It really all depends.
anacostiakat Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 I generally smoke with friends or others but I also like to smoke alone while I listen to some music or watching a film, It really all depends. Pretty much the same here. Today I walked from my local shop back to work after lunch smoking a cigar. But I rarely do that. Normally I am smoking with friends or my wife. Occasionally, I get the opportunity to smoke alone while listening to music or watching something.
BHK54 Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 I mostly smoke with company but time to time it is damn good to enjoy it by myself ... quality time
headstand Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Interesting question. So few of my acquaintances are able to slow down long enough to properly enjoy a cigar that, given a rushed session with friends vs smoking alone, I would prefer to smoke alone (maybe that will change when we all retire). So, mostly with a book in tow, but occasionally just siting back and enjoying the world go by. Best of all though is over a bottle of wine with the Mrs for company and watching the sun set on a warm summer evening - priceless.
bc8436 Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 There's nothing better than sharing a cigar (or two!) and drinks with some good friends. However, I smoke alone about 50% of the time. It puts me in a reflective mode at times. Great feeling to be able to light up a cigar, listen to music I enjoy and be lost within my own thoughts.
CohibaBehike Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 I mostly smoke with a group, however, I like to smoke when I walk the dogs.
asudevil08 Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 I usually smoke outside with my wife (who gracefully puts up with my smoke). Its a great time for both of us to relax and put all the bothers of everyday life on hold for a couple of hours. Some of our best conversations have been spent in the midst of a cigar or two.
gr8tdanz Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 The "Alone Always" option doesnt have a button next to it.
Cohiba Stevie Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 I rarely smoke with a group. Because im still living with my parents i usually wait till i can sit outside a nice wine bar with my girlfriend and enjoy a petit corona. 90% of the time i smoke alone which i prefer, usually out in my car with my ipod plugged into the stero, either listening to a podcast or an audiobook.
michael69 Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 If it's a seriously good/rare smoke, then ALWAYS alone..... you need to fully immerse yourself with no distractions; as close to a religious experience as I'm ever likely to have that's for sure. For example, yesterday I smoked the first of my Gran Reservas, and wouldn't have wanted anything to interrupt the almost dream-like state that this cigar seems capable of invoking. I'm very glad I've stocked up a bit on these, because I wouldn't have wanted it to be my one and only experience of this cigar. If I'm going to be with a group, then I'll take well-loved and well-known "goto" cigars that don't demand total immersion either through complexity or non-familiarity (heck, even a relatively bad stick can become a palatable companion if the company is good!)
BradNC Posted April 12, 2011 Author Posted April 12, 2011 The "Alone Always" option doesnt have a button next to it. Sorry about that. Should be fixed now.

gsmoke Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Being a bit of an introvert -- meaning being around other people usually drains me a bit -- my cigar smoking lifestyle usually entails having a few smokes in my backyard alone. I reflect, read, watch something on the iPad or write. That alone time usually leaves me pretty refreshed and energized so I can go be social again. Win-win.
Habanakane21 Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I normally smoke alone. Once i awhile I'll invite friends over for a pay per view event or a BBQ. But I prefer to smoke solo.
jesseo81 Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I love to smoke with a group, but schedule constraints usually force me to smoke alone--I grab a cigar when I can, smoking with friends is a less-common, special experience.
BradNC Posted April 12, 2011 Author Posted April 12, 2011 I'm really appreciating all the sharing here. I was about to conclude I was the only one who smoked alone since most of my local cigar friends only smoke with others and give me a hard time due to my solo smoking preference.
Stalebread Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I voted alone always. That's the way I start out and it's generally the way I prefer it. At a sidewalk cafe, then always alone. If I'm going to the smoking lounge at the Cubana Cafe, maybe there will be someone there who wants to talk, maybe not. You never can tell, sometimes everyone there, including me, is caught up in their own world, doing work on laptops, listening to iPods, reading, engaged in small pockets of obviously private conversation.
LeafLover Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Pretty much solo most of the time. I don't get together for the sole purpose of smoking cigars. All of us spend so much time away from home handling our business that we all pretty much are homebound at the end of the day. Cigars are more of therapy and "me" time. Every now and then I do smoke with my brothers, cousins, and friends at social gatherings which is always fun as well.
Firewiz25 Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 It depends on the day, some days I stop at the local lounge and enjoy a cigar with the group other days I go home and enjoy a cigar in the back yard playing fetch with my dog or during a movie.
CBL Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I usually smoke alone, I recently converted one of my classmates and he's starting CC's as well, but as we're both pretty busy with school we don't have that much time to smoke together. I actually enjoy smoking alone, gives me some time to reflect and what not. During the summers back home I do really cherish the time I have with my "old" cigar buddy, cruising the cigar shops in The Netherlands and Belgium and going through the stock we acquired together. Two months of pure smoking bliss! I also love lighting a cigar up while chatting with my parents in the garden during/after a summer BBQ. Smoking with a group isn't something I'd enjoy I'm afraid.
baragh Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Alone, no one to smoke with I'm afraid. Occasionally one of my mates will join in, but a rare event indeed.
bacalao Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I would say it's 50/50 for me unless you count my dogs. I 'll go to the cigar shop near work at least once a week for a cigar lunch. And I always take a smoke with me to the dog park. I love it your outdoors and the dogs are instant entertainment.
lancerv43 Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 If my friends are around I smoke with them if not I just enjoy it by myself. As of lately it is typically by myself.
