thechenman Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I enjoy having a cigar in a social environment with a group, but time constraints make that difficult to do on a regular basis. Most days I'm relegated to smoking alone on my porch or patio. Sometimes I listen to music, fiddle around on my laptop or iPad, watch a movie, catch up on e-mail, or in quiet contemplation. Both experiences are good and bring something different to the cigar.
BradNC Posted April 12, 2011 Author Posted April 12, 2011 I guess a second question would be if you smoke both alone and with others, do you reserve the higher quality stuff for those moments when you are alone or do you smoke what you want when you feel like it? I'd confess that I keep my more prized cigars for moments of solitude but have also shared on occasion.
BossHogg Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Alone most of the time. Not many smokers near by. However, when I can smoke with others I always welcome it
cigcars Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 *I have been invited many times, sometimes insistently, to smoke with the guys in the cigar/tobacco shop with the nice lounge chairs and the large screen TV. But I just don't like to smoke outside the home and in public, just don't want to do it. I smoke 99% of the time at home alone, but when a big sporting event (UFC or some championship big name boxing) comes on, I bring my brother-in-law over and we enjoy about two or three cigars apiece then.
maalouly Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 If it's a seriously good/rare smoke, then ALWAYS alone..... you need to fully immerse yourself with no distractions; as close to a religious experience as I'm ever likely to have that's for sure. For example, yesterday I smoked the first of my Gran Reservas, and wouldn't have wanted anything to interrupt the almost dream-like state that this cigar seems capable of invoking. I'm very glad I've stocked up a bit on these, because I wouldn't have wanted it to be my one and only experience of this cigar. If I'm going to be with a group, then I'll take well-loved and well-known "goto" cigars that don't demand total immersion either through complexity or non-familiarity (heck, even a relatively bad stick can become a palatable companion if the company is good!) Agreed!
scinmyheart Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 I voted always alone...none of my current friends smoke...my wife does not smoke...so it's usually me puffing away by myself (which is perfectly okay by me) we'll stop by the cigar lounge once a month or so and I'll smoke one while other people are present...does that count as not being alone?
cigarroverzulu Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 It seems lately the only time I get to smoke is while driving!
Chewz0507 Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 I also usually smoke alone since my current friends do not smoke cigars. I used to smoke with my father out by the pool every couple of weeks, but he now lives in Nicaragua so the distance makes it difficult.
Vortigan Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Have only ever smoked alone.Sometimes with music or a film but just lately whilst enjoying an extensive perusal of The FOH forums.
Traz Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 I mostly smoke cigars with someone else. Have had a couple by myself and while still enjoyable, it's just not the same as enjoying a fine Cuban cigar with a bunch of mates. Unfortunately most people I know either don't smoke or are only interested in poncey little cigarettes. (Sacrilege) I live in Sydney but really have to drive to either Canberra or up to the Central Coast where my cigar-smoking friends live. Another mate who likes CCs about as much as me lives down in Melbourne so that's pretty much useless to me most days of the year. >_> A damn shame that cigar enthusiasts seem to be pretty damn rare when you need them. Company is always preferred, but if a month has passed and said mates are too whipped to make time for a Cuban, well, I'm not won't to take matters into my own hands.
SethLG Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 I enjoy smoking with a group of friends with some nice wine but I tend to enjoy the cigar more by myself.
BobKincaid Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Because we live in a VERY rural area, there aren't a lot of opportunities for cigar comraderie. Occasionally, I'll take a couple of Fonsecas with me and share them up at the local beer joint. In the main, though, the best moments are at home. My lovely wife will share a smoke with me about once a week as we sit watching a movie together. Mostly, though, I smoke in my broadcast studio. Three hours a night behind the mic offer me an opportunity to linger over a smoke in the course of some great conversation.
