Dud box

I've got a dud box at the moment. All but one cigar has been horrible. I think it's either been poorly looked after in the past OR they have been rolled with unfermented tobacco (they kind of look like that - greenish twists etc).

What do you guys and gals do in the situation? I'm tempted to just throw the box in the bin and be done with them.

Yeah Dicko, I had one box of Trini Reyes where half the box smoked like the things where rolled using paper bags. I'm sorry, they got tossed. That's the only casualty on my docket.

Never had a dud box like that. Anything even CLOSE to looking like potential quality issues, they either get passed over if I'm the one doing the shopping and hand-selection, or if it's bought through a retailer, they get sent back and exchanged/refunded. I've never had to deal with such a negative quality issue, nor have I ever been stopped by a retailer who tried to give any hassle, just trying to slough off some dud stock.

Pick the boxes smartly yourself, take the time to select good quality, and/or have a good/reputable retailer do some accurate selection for you.

Now, all that said, Dicko, if you'd stop buying Ken's "aged and quality stock" Guantanamera's from him, you wouldn't have these problems!

I've had a box like that. SLR serie A '07's. Didn't touch em for 3 years...smoked one the other day and it was great. I say hide them for awhile, what do you have to lose?

Most suppliers will give you a refund but too much time may have passed for you. I've bought a box of hand picked cigars from a very well reputable dealer and they've stunk so far. I mean these things have oily, dark wrappers...looks can be deceiving sometimes. I'm hoping they do something in the next few years.

Blasphemy! I have had the worst cigars blossom in to some of the best. Never give up on a box young or old. I definitely do not believe that a cigar needs to show signs of potential during it's younger years.

I've never pitched a box I had room to keep. I figure that too many variables could be affecting whether the cigars taste good -- their age, the specific blend that when into each individual cigar, what I ate for breakfast, you know? However, when I've found a particular batch all taste shitty in the same shitty way, I'll pitch the cigar as soon as I identify the shittiness.

I have a couple of 'dud' boxes sitting at the bottom of a coolerdor. It just seems too wasteful to throw them out so I'll revisit them in a few years and see if they have improved.

I've pitched a few. Generally my M.O. has been to keep them until I need the room, check to make sure they still suck, then toss them.

Don't toss them, hang on to them and revisit them later. I currently have a box a Cohiba Sig II's that were just not right due to previous storage from the vender maybe? I bought them "aged" and they are just crap. However, after about two more years in my humi and about halfway through the box, I found one that was amazing! I thought to myself, Yes! Maybe they will all be like this one right? Then I smoked another one a week later and... well... not so much. But I keep them around because who knows, there could be another winner in there

So I say hold on to them and hope for the best!

-Yeah mate i chased a good price instead of my normal vendors, and i didnt chase it up after the first couple of bad ones, my bad!

yeah these were bought with some age 07's. i reckon they were sitting around in a dodgy spot for a while though

I'd hang onto them dicko...if you have the space that is. Revisit them on an annual basis and see what develops. As was mentioned earlier...there are so many variables. True...in the end the whole box may have smoked like crap, but you can always chock it up to a learning experience.

I have only pitched one box. They were an 2000 box that appeared to have been stored poorly. After keeping them for quite a bit of time and "takes" from the box it wa evident that anything further would be a waste of time.

I didnt feel it would be fair to give these to anyone else.

I would personally probably give them to one of my friends that "loves" cigars. Plenty of times I have given a primo stick to a friend only to watch him set it down not even half way through. It is funny how some people "love" cigars if you have some but they would never smoke them other wise. Don't know if you have friends that claim to "love" cigars but this would be a great remedy.

Cigars are like food to me. And I don't waste food. So, I would never throw the box away. I have a dud box. I am saving them to see if time will turn them around. I tried one yesterday actually. Was sub-decent, so back to rest they go. I'm filled to capacity and should I buy more cigars, I'm contemplating asking a friend to store my box and give him free reign to smoke them. If he smokes them, great and no money lost...at least someone enjoyed them.

I've pitched a few. Mostly I'd give CC's a fair chance to heal for a few years before giving up on them.

But, sometimes there just is no hope and it's better for the soul to toss them. Treat yourself to a fresh box of something else. You have ample excuse. Best thing to make you forget a relationship gone bad is hooking up some young new hot thang.
