The HSA "Dunce of the Decade" award comprises those cigars so fatally flawed in conception and execution that there stood no chance for their commercial success.

Please nominate 1-2 cigars and I will put them in a poll tomorrow.

My nominee

Trinidad Short Robusto "T" LE 2010

WTF? This was the cigar that confirmed HSA had run out of ideas.

"What we will do is produce a cigar smaller and half as good as the Robusto T....and charge more"

"Good idea Manuel! The peoples sem a stupid!"

Actually...no they weren't.

Monte Open line.

No explanation necessary.

I've never had one myself (I've heard nothing but bad things about them), but the Hoyo Particulares seem like a pretty massive failure. The fact that a 2000/2001 limited release is still pretty widely available (and cheap) speaks volumes.

Relaunch of the Troya and Belinda machine made junkers. Of course we can't forget about the Guantanameras.

Technically not HSA. I agree though, just being very technical though.

Gotta agree with you there mm. I tried a box a few years back and they indeed were a 100% failure.

Not quite sure if it counts or not, as we're getting into the next decade, being 2011 and all....and we're still waiting for them....but I'd nominate the R&J Julieta's. I'd say they're a decade-and-a-half late on these - the time to capatalize on female cigar smokers was years ago now, with that craze/upswing, and H S.A. isn't even playing catchup anymore on these (it seems like H S.A. is no longer innovating, but that they're just sitting back, seeing what works for other cigar companies, and then they jump in years and years later, and make a half-hearted effort). Even after all their "experience" and planning and the like, they announced these over a year ago now I believe, and yet they still haven't arrived to market yet. They're in these "fashionable" little metal decorative 5-packs, and while it's catchy looking honestly, it's likely that H S.A. has once again put 10-times more thought/planning/resources into the packaging, compared to the product.

I always find that pathetic with H S.A. - "We have this great new item!" "When will it be available?" "Who the hell knows?! Maybe in a year and a half???"

I will have to nominate the R y J belicosos, I have never found a good one! I know that have been around for a long time, but the few times that I had them, they make me want to give up on R y J... (but then I grab a Duke and everything is ok again ;)

Easily agree with this. Pretty much all the short fat stuff doesnt do it for me.

My vote is for anything in the Petite Robusto or Petite Pyramid Vitola. Just an odd size. If I want a quicker smoke, I'll grab a minuto or a PC. Robustos are already a quick smoke as well...why shorten them?

Haven't tried the Monte Open and doubt I ever will. I'm guessing they sell better than 5-10 other existing regular production Marques though so maybe it's working for them.

Dunce of the decade huh??? Well, this is gonna' offend a few, but Bwana asked for it.

Dunce of the decade is the H SA customer! We settle for less tobacco for more money. We buy extra bands for 30-40-50% more cost. We buy shiny boxes with less cigars for more dough!!! Dunces... we are the dunces (collectively). Like what you like I guess, but today we have fewer choices for cigars today and less variety in cigar taste overall. Mag 46, Mag 48, Mag 50, Mag 51.12345... what stupidity! Lets make 10x boxes so we can get the damn fools to spend $125 for 10 cigars when they used to buy 25 for $200.

I personally don't care what cigars H SA makes. I mean if they please someone and it sells tobacco it furthers the industry. Just don't kill the real good ones for a bunch of untested, overpriced, bad duplications! Me, I am a'waitin' for the Mag 90 Petri addition, the first cigar wider than it is long! -Piggy

It would have to be the Monte Open. Can we please have the Punch RS 11 back now???

Next decade I predict it will be the release of the RyJ XXXWide Churchill - NuB style.

Here! Here! How about leaving the little guy (who enjoys regular production smokes) alone! Too many of those wonderful thin gauge cigars have died by the wayside for many of the RE's & LE's.

This is pure gold! A Petri addition!!! Piggy, you never disappoint.

The "Cohiba Chode EL 2011" does have a certain ring to it....
