stunod Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I am trying to decide between a box of Trinidad Robusto Extras or Trinidad Robusto T: Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.
jsd Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I love the Robusto Extras. I have a few boxes from 05 and 06 that I think are great. I'm trying to conserve them. I haven't had the Robutsto T yet, but I hear good things. Wish I could be more helpful.
Habanakane21 Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Wish I knew....I've never had a Trinidad. I've been thinking about getting a 12 pack to check them out. Let's see what the others have to say about them.
jdbrown Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I havent had a Trini Robusto Extra in a few years. That being said I really enjoy the Trini T a great deal. I have several boxes for smoking and a few boxes to laydown.
Dbone Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I've not had either, but boy the Robusto T sure has the hype. Considered by many as the best Robusto out of Cuba at the moment.
Van55 Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 At their youthful stage Robustos Extra, for my palate, were practically unsmokable. They have evolved into excellent cigars now, with 5 or so years of age on them. Robustos T were excellent right out of the box for my taste. One of the best new releases coming out of Cuba in a long time.
anacostiakat Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Yea. Had some of the original releast Robusto Extras and they were just crap. I finished off the last ones I had last year from that order and they had improved. But the Robusto T's are like cotton candy. Delicious.
tmac77 Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I have had a couple of 2 year old Trini T's and from that one stick, which was absolutely delightful, took the plunge and bought a 24 cab. I have also had a number of Coloniales which I also found to be extremely good and will get even better with a bit of age on them. sorry not to be able to help out on the Robusto Extra.
Cig Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I love the Robusto Extra. Been a great cigar for me with a wonderful flavor profile.
El Presidente Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 For my taste, Robuto T and then daylight second
CohibaBehike Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Robusto T! That was one of the better cigars I've had in the last year! They are fabulous!
thechenman Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I've smoked the entire Trini line and the Robusto T is the best, followed by the Reyes, Coloniales and fund adores in that order for the top 3. Just one man's opinion though.
ewipper Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I am trying to decide between a box of Trinidad Robusto Extras or Trinidad Robusto T: Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated. Unless the Robusto Xtras are from 04, stay away, IMHO. I do not believe that Trinidad regular production cigars in large ring gauges work at all. But the T is performing better right now.
traded Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I am trying to decide between a box of Trinidad Robusto Extras or Trinidad Robusto T: Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated. Im reviving this thread as I am displeased with the thrashing my dear Robustos Extra is taking here. I have smoked 07-09 robustos extras and love them immensely. I have a box of T's from mid 2010 that are just lame and bitter at the moment (i have tried 3/12...the rest I will wait for). FOH member Aizuddin, has what I consider the best and most accurate review of the Robustos Extra I have ever read/seen. Prez and Aizuddin, I hope you don't mind me posting this link. My theory as to why the Extra gets poopooed so much is because it is straight up mild with delicate almost silky flavor and body. It is at its best as the first smoke of the day and takes patience to keep it from getting hot. I dont drink, but i would imagine any strong drink with this cigar would ruin it.. Ok, thats pretty much the strongest recommendation I can make for the Robustos Extra. d
adic88 Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 I've reviewed both, both samples from 2009 boxes. Robusto T http://mycigarblog.org/blog/?p=1844 -- scored it a 92/100 Robusto Extra http://mycigarblog.org/blog/?p=1896 -- scored is a 93/100 The TRE just shades it for me because it has an added layer of complexity; a magical metamorphosis of flavours as you progress through the cigar. This isn't to say that the Robusto T doesn't do something similar -- all great cigars are complex beasts, imo. But due to the slightly larger vitola, the time required to smoke the TRE is a bit longer, and thus, it gives the tobacco just that bit more time to evolve a bit more. Of course, i'm speaking in relative terms. In absolute terms, both cigars are magnificent, and whichever you choose will serve you just as well as the other. Another factor you should factor in your choice -- time. The Robusto T is a 60-75 minute smoke, the TRE is a 90+ minute cigar (according to my personal draw patterns, YMMV). So if you have less time, go with the Ts if you think you'll have more time, then the TRE may be a better choice.

I had a fairly young Robusto Extra, which tasted accordingly. That being said, with a few years on them, they are much better. Better than the Robusto T? Not in my opinion. The Robisto T is very decent at a young age and MUCH improved with time. I preferred the Robusto T by a long shot
