Orion21 Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 I have an ongoing discussion going with a close friend who feels no cigar is worth more than $20 and anyone willing to pay over that sum is crazy. So, since the Behike line starts at $40 US and goes to $60 US (depends on market) the question is are they worth the cost? Not having sampled one I wouldn't know. Anyone who has please feel free to share your opinion.
stunod Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Great smoke but.....not worth $40-$60 a stick. Too many great smokes for half the price.
mbrody Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 This question is entirely relative to one's financial situation, perception of the value, and general appreciation of a cigar. To me, they are worth it because I want to have a few "special" smokes in my possession for very special occassions. If the cigar does not perform like a 95 pointer cigar, I am not worried. If it performs like a dog rocket, then I will *****. But I tried one and know it is not a rocket. It is to me an achievement smoke. One that I can afford a few of, but one that I cannot afford to smoke regularly. I may like a Boli PC more, but because I have plenty of Boli PC's, I do not perceive a Boli PC to be a celebratory cigar. Really though, to each his own. There is no right or wrong answer here. Just opinions. 1
Tarks Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 I have only smoked the 52. It was good. It was the most expensive cigar I have smoked (to date) and was not the best cigar I have smoked. I will buy more!
wen1979 Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 bought a single recently to try.....cost S$85 for a single BHK 52. One of the better cigars i have smoked but probably the last BHK i am going to try. The price tag is just too hefty for frequent enjoyment.

broozer Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 This question is entirely relative to one's financial situation, perception of the value, and general appreciation of a cigar. i agree 100%. if you have the money to buy one then it's worth taking a chance. in the past when i had the funds to buy vintage dunhills and davidoffs i did. oddly enough only one of them i deemed worth what i paid and because of that i sold off what i didn't feel was worth the price. so if you can purchase a 5'er or a box then do so. if you don't like them then sell them. it's almost guaranteed you won't lose any money. me personally, aside from being dead broke right now, i would not buy them. there is NO brand new cigar i would ever feel worth $40 or more. only 10+ YO cigars are ones i would ever consider buying for that price. bruce

Just opinions. I really do not think so. Whether you can afford it or not does not change the fact it is a great cigar, or maybe not. I can afford it but why spend $50 on a cigar when other cigars can be had for a cheaper price. Just because it cost a fortune does not mean it it going to be better relative to other cigars. The only reason you call it a "special" is because of the price. If it was $10 would it still be special, no. It just depends on what as you say, perceive it as. You have a box of 10 that you spent $500, so you save them for that special time, but as you say those Boli PC are much better. Why not smoke them then? If I had a special time that I wanted to celebrate I would pick the cigar that I liked the most and knew was going to be great. As you say, no right or wrong, just opinions.
Orion21 Posted February 1, 2011 Author Posted February 1, 2011 Personal finances aside is the Behike a $40-$60 cigar based on quality and enjoyment compared to a $20 cigar -- or even a $10 cigar? I know that my first Padron experience was my watershed moment with cigars. At $30 I thought it was twice as good as an $15 cigar from any brand. However, can you say the Behike 56 at $60US is twice as good as a Padron, intern justifying the price if you can afford both? Or if we want to keep it in the family -- is the Behike 3 times better than the Sig VI???
Sutton Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Well for $111 you can try all 3 behikes and make your own judgment on it, is it 3 times better than a sig 6 based strictly on price point , IMO no. Seems some people are stuck on this special word. Beautiy is in the eye of the beholder, in this case I guess special is on the mouth of the smoker.
Orion21 Posted February 1, 2011 Author Posted February 1, 2011 I wanted to, but a certain website has been down all day... PM me if there are more details on this. Orion21 Posted February 1, 2011 Author Posted February 1, 2011 He is. He is worth millions and refuses to make his fiancée sign a prenup. Won't spend a few extra bucks on cigars, but will gamble with millions of dollars and property because he doesn't want to insult his fiancée who is 15 years younger... idiot. Some people would call your buddy crazy for spending $20 on a cigar
MrGlass Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 I've only tried the 52 so far, but I have the 54 and 56 waiting for me. The sampler from Czar was too good an opportunity to pass up. It was definitely good and I enjoyed it, but wouldn't say that I was blown away. If I had spare cash to throw away, sure I would buy a few boxes. But until the money tree I planted in the backyard starts to bloom, I can't imagine that I'll be revisiting the Behike anytime soon.
Colt45 Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Whether you can afford it or not does not change the fact it is a great cigar, or maybe not. I can see both sides - if you have the funds and enjoy them, then have at it. But I agree that a high price does not automatically make it a great cigar. What I have more trouble grasping these days is the thought of saving things for a special occasion, be it a cigar, bottle of wine, scotch, etc. There are no guarantees - every day we wake up and find ourselves breathing is a special occasion.
habanohal Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 I have really been wanting too buy a box or atleast try them. the 52s are in the high $200 range I know of but way too much for a petite robusto. Maybe a few years ago I would buy multiple boxes, but now I think twice before I pay those premiums, since you can buy ALOT more with the money in other lines
Bartolomeo Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 1. I had a pre-production Behike 54 that was outstanding 2. I can't afford a box right now 3. I would recommend at least trying a couple singles just to sample and go from there Bart
cigcars Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 *That's what I feel about the Cohiba Gran Reserva for over One HUNDRED DOLLARS PER STICK! And you can't find the dern thing anywhere 'cuz it's always sold out. I sought out the opinion of a trusted cigar guru in the web sites to see if he'd tried one and if he felt it worth that much. He responded surprisingly quickly to me that he had NOT - and had no intention of spending that much on one cigar. He said, "You can get just as much enjoyment out of a $30 Cohiba Siglo VI." I obtained a Gran Reserva anyway. Was lengthy and okay. *For the Behikes, since the aftershock of spending THAT much on one stick, it has cooled me down to spend, happily, a low 3 figure amount for the sampler pack sold. I enjoyed the Behike 56 the most but that was probably due to the long time spent in my humidor. I enjoy having them on hand, but I couldn't make it a habit, I think, of regularly purchasing them - not for SO much moolah!
Turrbo Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Yes, they are worth the money. At least to me. I like the 56 the most and that is based off of length but I liked the 52's ring gauge. Here's the thing... If you have a large enough humidor to house a box of cigars where you can have one or so a year it's worth it. Let's say you get a box of 56s for $600 (rough number). Let's say you smoke 1 a year when there is a special occasion, that's $60 a year. I just enjoyed one on the day of my sons first birthday. It was absolutely fantastic. I understand, you can amortize the cost of anything. You could replace that $600 price tag with a $500 one on a box of 25 and come up witha far better end figure, I know. But at the end of the day if you're a fan of smoking cigars you should try at least one of whatever you can get a hold of granted you can afford it. We all spend more than $60 on something stupid each year...
Puros Y Vino Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Agreed. It really comes down to each individual's tastes and values. I shelled out $100 stick to get some 1970 Cuban Davidoff No1's and about $150 for one Davidoff Dom Perignon. Those are my special occasion cigars. So far I've smoked the the No1 and have the Dom, a couple of No 2 Tubos, a Chateau Haut Brion to look forward to. Crazy money? Yes. But spent over time as little gifts to myself for hitting some personal goals. IMO, comparing cigars "worth" only works when comparing regular production sticks by vitola. ie Is a RyJ Petite Corona a better buy over Bolivar PC's?
stogieokie Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 I guess it's a good thing that I'm not a Cohiba fan, so I'm not even tempted. Even if it wasn't a Cohiba I wouldn't spend that kind of money on something so new.
thechenman Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 No disrespect intended towards your friend, or anyone else who feels that the BHKs are not worth thier weight in composte, but if you take a look, you'll see that a great number of cigar smokers do find them worth the coin, and do buy them...so much so that the BHK release has been a huge success, much like the Cohiba Gran Reserva. These buyers may not all be buying them for the same reason...some may buy them because they think they are great cigars, others buy them as gifts, some buy them as special occassion cigars, others as everyday smokes, some just as a show piece. Regardless of the reason these buyers feel that the will or have derived enough utility from these cigars to warrant a purchase, or in some cases multiple purchases. This alone tells you that many cigar consumers feel they are well worth the price. As for you...you're not going to know until you try it for yourself. Contact Lise...get a sampler from Czar and decide for yourself. Even if you determine they are not your cup of tea, at least it will end the wondering...
Turrbo Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 The deal that's going on now where you get one of each for $111 is SO WORTH IT!!! It's a must have if you either don't want to take one out of your box or if you are curious.

Agreed. Do the math and compare. I've got two coming. Can't wait!
BonVivant Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 A friend of mine asked me recently, if Bolivar Corona Gigantes from '98 are worth $650US - the answer was - yes, if you can afford it ...and no if you can afford to spend $400+ for BHK52s
