Hi all Friends of Habanos,

I used to like smoking pipes (got them when I was working in Kazakhstan a.k.a Borat's hometown) and hookahs (which we call shisha here in Singapore). The aroma, the draw and the smoke is what makes me smoke these instead of cigarettes which honestly I still can’t find a reason to like them even till now. Sometimes I will just hang around Arab Street smoking for hours and the enjoyment is simply ZEN.

To describe my adventure on how i arrived in this forum, it has to start on a warm Singapore sunday afternoon when i walked past Orchard Parade Hotel here in Singapore and i happened to glance into this shop called The Oaks Cigar. What caught my eye were all these wooden boxes and sticks of cigar displayed in an enclosed room. The first question that came into my mind was “How is it like to smoke one of those? Do I need to buy a cutter before I can smoke them?”

The curiosity was too strong, so there I went into the shop and I started browsing their collection. I knew nuts about the brands and was simply attracted to the bands attached to each of them. So I asked the salesman for a recommendation within my budget (less than SGD 30). I wanted a single stick to test-drive the experience and he recommended me something which is of a cigarillos size and I kinda forgotten the brand. He recommended also that for my budget, I can try the normal and maduro flavors to see which I like so I got two sticks for under SGD 30.

So off I went back home, like a young boy receiving his new toy, ready to close my room door and indulge in my first ever cigar (though it’s a cigarillos which I found out later)! I must say I REALLY REALLY LOVE THEM. Out of the two, I must really say I love the maduro for a start due to its thick creamy flavor.

And that’s how I got started! I started researching on the brands, the size, the ways to cut a cigar, the ways to light a cigar and the ways to preserve your cigars!

Wow…there are SO MUCH THINGS TO LEARN in smoking a cigar. I became cautious in what I bought off the shelf and I became experimental trying out different brands. I also started reading Aizuddin’s blog and watching his videos and that’s where I found “Friends of Habanos”. I have been reading this forum for at least a month now and I believe its time I join the community officially…..

Thank you Friends of Habanos

And that’s my story =)

Many many many many many more years to come …….

PS: I just ordered my first ever humidor! Only to find that I could have converted my wine cooler into a coolidor! This forum rox! A bunch of helpful and friendly folks.

Chelsea8: Thanks! I read your welcome thread this afternoon. Will look forward to your guidance in future =)

No problem.

Later this week I may be popping in at Cigar Czar, if I can make it. Wanted to go there from the airport on the way to the Gold Coast, but i only arrive at midnite. Next week I will be going down to Bali for a big cigar and single malt whiskey party for 4 days.

cheers!

G'day and welcome. Great introduction by the way! I've always wanted to smoke a pipe but never have. Will have to try it one day.
