asmith Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 After all the bitching that Ken has done demanding the Behike tasting Rob surprised him with two. First up is the 52 lets see how it goes.
MoneyPit Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Smithy "Manager of Magic", can you pull a box of Behikes out of your hat for me??? Great review guys. I'm surprised that nobody has really talked about the CA top 25 list for 2010. I'm assuming that it's due to the fact that there's only 3 Cuban cigars that made the list...
Colt45 Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Thanks guys! Dobe, re the top 25 list, if you're interested, here's a link to a fairly recent thread: Link
BradNC Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 This video had me dying of laughter. The sound at 5:43 is priceless.
dicko Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 I thought the way you were talking after the 1st third it was headed to 95 score territory. Good point by Rob and Ken about an expensive bottle of wine being the same price. The difference is, the wine you 95% know will be a 95, but a cuban cigar, well, we know what they are like, it's not unimaginable it could be plugged! I would like to try these in the future though.
Joker Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Thanks Rob & Ken for another entertaining and honest review. Keep them coming. Cheers
Ken Gargett Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 After all the bitching that Ken has done demanding the Behike tasting Rob surprised him with two. First up is the 52 lets see how it goes. yeah, i actually meant the gran reserva but these will do at a pinch. thanks for your magic, smithy.
Puros Y Vino Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Great review gents. Good, solid, honest opinions and observations. And some good laughs too. Cheers!
CigarB Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Ken how can you question miracles??? I saw two in that video! First, a cork with the strength to hold up for that long to that mauling and secondly the power needed to snap it off Great review I have a 10ct of the 52 in transit and look forward to giving them a try after a nice nap through the winter.
jackohalloran Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Another great review guys! I think the BHK will be spectacular in about 4-5 years. Cheers
Ken Gargett Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Ken how can you question miracles??? I saw two in that video! First, a cork with the strength to hold up for that long to that mauling and secondly the power needed to snap it off that just makes it too easy!! there was a plastic centre to that cork but not even that could prevent rob 'childproof' ayala from destroying it. the real miracle is that i ever let him back through the door.
frenchkiwi Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 so... a decent cigar but outrageously poor value for money. No surprises!
ZAZ Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Great review guys, and of course, a bunch of great laughs as well. Thanks for sharing.
Ken Gargett Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 so... a decent cigar but outrageously poor value for money. No surprises! that is probably a fair summing up, if marginally harsh, but to be fair to it, if it is as good as rob says, and i can only comment on the one i've seen, then certainly not succh bad value. worth checking out the 54 when the vid is posted. smithers?
jedipastor Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Great review! I've been waiting for you guys to do this one. Sounds like a potentially amazing cigar with some aging. I'm very curious about the Medio-tempo leaf. I thought Rob's point in comparing it to a nice bottle of wine was great. Many people wouldn't think twice about "opening up something nice" for a special occasion, but when we hear about a $50-$80 cigar we go crazy.
CigarB Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Very good point about the analogy to wine. With a 52 going for about $31 USD, I find the two to be on par for what you get from each. What I took from the review was that Rob said this was on the lower end (maybe lowest, can't recall exactly) of the Behike he's smoked. I put more stock into that than this one example that just happened to make it to the big time of the video review (maybe a little stage fright ). With a 94-95 average from Rob over a number of cigars I don't think we should be skewed from this one just because it was on video. I'm sure the guys will put together a follow up review down the road. Rob at least owes Ken another 52 after the cork catastrophe!
thechenman Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Nice work gentlemen, looking forward to the 54 review when Smithy gets it up.
Mr.T Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Great review and video gents......always a highlight of my day. Love, love the idea of a long, skinny Behike!! Look forward to the 54 review.
cloganplatt Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Fun review - Was the booze starting to take hold?? Can't wait to try 'em myself -Cheers fellas.
Guibou Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 I've tasted several ones but the experience I want to relay here is the first BHK52 I tasted. I had it in the morning right after my first espresso. It was very creamy with toasted bread aromas, easy and comfortable smoke that coated my palate nicely. It was a little leathery on the end and overall and very enjoyable smoke with no sign of youth even tough boxed in September. Few hours later I had a Trini Robusto T, almost the same size. And Boom! candied fruits flavors, toastiness, leathery, molasse... heaven! So in fact my opinion on the BHK52 was changed. I know it is different brand/filler etcbut I would definitely rate the Trini higher than the BHK52 for the same price range cigar!
