cellinisart Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Very interesting! Maybe Rob should open us up Pet Loads forum! -LOL While I don't do anything gun related professionally, firearms are a major passion of mine not only as a hobby, but shall I say "politically" as well. I don't frequent any shooters forums so finding someone who is a ballistics professional, here, is kind of a treat. I have been shooting since before I can remember and started taking an interest in exterior ballistics at about 14 when I started reloading my own metallic.I don't shoot much these days, no more 5 gallon pails of brass but I still love the sport, reload, and shoot when I can. I miss the days where I would throw out a tarp at the Steel Challenge Club and hose through a 1000 rounds of 38 Super without a second thought. Now if I shoot 50 rounds of 308 or 243... its a big day!!! -LOL Glad to make your acquaintance! -Piggy, but you can call me Ray (as the saying goes) Thanks, likewise Ray. The names Raymond but you can also call me Ray!

I have one of those Remingtons as well but I can't say that mine shoots as well as I like. A friend of mine has one of the first series released and it was a one hole wonder on my reloads. I expect too much I guess!!! Great rifle though. My biggest disappointment is my Swift. I think I just finally shot it out or perhaps damaged the crown. Throat erosion probably; too many hot loads and prairie dog sessions. I am seriously thinking of building a 338 Lapua when I am working again. Just what need... another firearm! -LOL Thank for sharing Jim. -R
Jimmy2 Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Thanks P !! 338 Lapua what a great round my friend has a Remington 700 P model in that round cost a pretty penny and its a bad ass sniper rifle as the military are using them more and more..

I am thinking full custom; Krieger barrel, Stiller action, McMillan stock, box magazine. Parts are pricey but the finished guns cost a pile and I would likely just start with a professionally barreled action and finish the project myself. Brass is pricey too but Lapua brass is top shelf and I could likely live out the rest of my life with 200 cases, properly finished. I use Lapua brass for my 308 and my 243. Good ****! -Piggy
Freefallguy Posted January 24, 2011 Author Posted January 24, 2011 The only Class III I've fired was a MAC 10; would have taken off my left thumb if Gunny had not changed my grip. Felled a pine tree sapling with it. A $200 Fed stamp is well worth the price of admission. A friend of a friend has a .338 Lapua built by EDM Arms. Sweet cartridge. Even sweeter with lathe turned bullets. He also has a .50 BMG from EDM. At prone with a bipod the recoil is still about 10"! Jimmy, I'm jealous as I've wanted one of those 700's. Nice, very nice. Nice location too. Hope to catch up soon. Cheers all.
JY0 Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Hello fellow enthusiasts. I'm a shooter and hand loader. I'm lucky to have my own humble range.
Trevor2118 Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 To paraphrase an aussie actor (now in the US).... Call that brass.........................this is brass:

PigFish Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 I know why you guys can't own handguns anymore; you have a preference for artillery! Ken has probably got 30mm 'gat' to protect "him" from the snakes! Whether it is cigars or firearms I guess I still prefer the smaller calibers!!!
