I'm going to Grand Cayman Island Wednesday for a weeks holidays. Of course, I'll like to fire up some CC's daily while on the beach. I've been to GCM several times before but not wasn't into cigars as much. I do know there is a small shop on Seven Mile Beach Rd right at the (former) Hyatt, which is the property we stay at. And I've seen the one at the airport but suspect it might be peddling fakes as the prices seem too good. Can anyone refer to me a solid source on the island? I'm not looking at boxes as I've acquired plenty thanks to this site  but would like to maybe indulge in a few singles to try some new vitola/marca combos.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead but does anyone else have any info on buying in the Caymans?

Specifically,

are there any RE's worth trying?

has anyone used their duty free service?

Any tips are appreciated.

The la casa in grand cayman is really nice. It's a smaller shop but the guy who manages it (forget his name off the top of my head) was incredibly helpful and opened two sealed boxes to pull singles for me.

I can't recommend the la casa enough.

Not sure about the cigars, but one point of note unless things have changed, the price of liquor on the island is really expensive, ( I believe they do it to keep alcoholism down) not like the other Caribbean islands, I would recommend you pick up whatever your favourite is at the duty fee of your local airport. ie if leaving from Toronto, get it at the Pearson Airport Duty Free.

Have a great trip.

Tony,I was twice at the LCDH there and the staff(2) were the unfriendlyest people I ever met in the cigar bussiness.I went instead to the shop underneath the Margaritavlille Bar.They sell real cubans as well and are very helpfull and friendly. The place is called Churchill's Cigars. The lady's name is Karla.

i didnt get the warmest reception while I was browsing around at the LCDH. Maybe my apparel was too "half drunk guy from the beach looking for some ceegars" or something. anyway, I didn't buy anything and went to the small shop on 7 mile beach road at the Hyatt. Good selection and the owner and I enjoyed a few cigars and drinks at "Doubledeckers" the bar next door. He introduced me to the JL #2 for which I am very grateful.

Wallace will tell you where else besides LCDH to buy cigars. Basically, all the vendors along seven mile beech are legit.

There is a little free-standing store in the Pink Plaza owned by the same guy who owns a swanky night club. Both have the real thing. Best prices I found were in the little "hut" of a shop next to/across from the Ritz.

I first met Valerio at a cigar tasting in Havana in February. You were there Nino ;)

Really very nice guy, turns out he lived in Dublin for a while.
