vivalanation734 Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 In the past few years, I think we can all agree that cigars are smoking better younger than they had in the past. I have yet to try anything from 2010, but have a box of BRCs on their way from February. I haven't seen many reviews or posts on the topic, so I wanted to get your feedback, gentlemen. So how are 2010 boxes smoking? What have you tried from this year?
docbp87 Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 Montecristo No. 4 from MAR 10. I've only smoked one, about a month ago. I could tell it was young, but it still had a lot of great character that I would expect to get from a good monte.
bassman Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 Outside of a couple varieties of custom rolls, the only 2010s I've smoked are the German RA Belis. Fantastic cigars.
Montaigut Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 Ramon Allones Small Club Coronas ABR '10 - Definitely not to be smoked for a while: green and harsh. Partagas Short MAY '10 - Looking very good now, will definitely improve. H. Upmann Regalias ABR '10 - Great from the get go! Very sweet spice. Juan Lopez Seleccion No. 2 ABR '10- Good first half or so, dark towards the end. Will improve. Le Hoyo des Dieux MAY '10 - Sweeeet! Montecristo No. 2 ABR '10 - Cream of the crop. Two thumbs and more boxes coming! Still waiting to try a Lusitanias ABR '10... Overall '10 is a good year indeed.

anacostiakat Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 I have only smoked the Behike 54s and Partagas SP#2. The Behike's are fantastic. The PSP#2 (PE) very good.

Wicky Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 So far Feb 10 Party Shorts. Very good. Finished the dress box. All enjoyable. Jan 10 PLPC. Excellent! Buy these for sure! Feb 10 CoRo. Meh... Put these in deep sleep.
CanuckSARTech Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Only '10s so far are Trinidad Robustos T (box is March 2010, "GLP"), and then R&J Wide Churchills (March 2010 "MUA"). The Trini T's are phenomenal - I'm trying to give them some more time to sit, but they are impeccable now. The Wide Churchills are so-so. They're quite smooth and unyouthful-like now, as they are. It's just not an overly complex or "meaty" cigar, sort of a boring smoke. But there's no youthful harshness to it. That's what I've smoked. I have one other box, an HQ box of RASS that's May 2010 "POL", but I haven't touched it yet. However, tactile sensation of the oils on them, plus the box aromas are both just sensational - it looks to be a fine, fine box, one that I can't wait to crack into.
crazymancal Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Opened a box of Siglo VI a week ago dated URG JUN10 ........ So far they are excellent ! So excellent that I only have 15 left. In fact these may end up being my best cigar/cigars smoked in 2010! Cmc
PigFish Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 I'm an anachronism! I have yet to smoke a '10 cigar!!! -LOL Perhaps I will have to have Lisa put some together for me just to try. A friend of mine told me that the '10 La Puntas are just fantastic.
bob25 Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 I smoked yesterday a Boliver PC from 2010 and it was amazing. Absolutely heavenly. One of the best cigars I had in a really long time.
LeafLover Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 IMO, all the 2010 boxes need to reach their 1st birthday to be smoking well aside of the Parti Shorts.
SmokinPorn Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Just had a MAR 10 Party PCE and it was not too enjoyable. Gave it a chance all the way to the nub but still didn't give me the satisfaction from previous aged ones.
shrink Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Just had a MAR 10 Party PCE and it was not too enjoyable. Gave it a chance all the way to the nub but still didn't give me the satisfaction from previous aged ones. Aged PCE's are da bomb. Just broke into an early '08 box. Loads of pepper, spice and flavor. Best bargain in Partagas I know of.
cellinisart Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 tanic and harsh, will be good in a couple of years. I wish they would stop shipping it out. Need more 2008
vivalanation734 Posted December 30, 2010 Author Posted December 30, 2010 Got my BRCs in. Smoked one last night and it was great! A little harsh toward the end but the front half was incredible.
Cig Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 I've had a few boxes from 2010. Some were wonderful like the RyJ wide churchills from April. On the other hand some Serie D No 4's I had were still a bit green.
gsmoke Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Don't think there is any rhyme or reason. I have 2 boxes of Party Shorts 2010, one month apart. Smoking completely different. Lots of flavor but the consistency is not there.
jedipastor Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 IMO, all the 2010 boxes need to reach their 1st birthday to be smoking well aside of the Parti Shorts. +1 I'm not a fan of young cigars, I'll admit. So often they are either virtually flavorless or just plain nasty. It's just a waste for me personally to smoke them. (I'll admit I do enjoy a brutal young Partagas on occasion, not sure, it must be a sickness of mine.) The Party Shorts, however, are the exception to my rule. The '10 cab I have is already fantastic, they taste two years old to me. Past the sick phase, past the "blah" phase, already tasty. But then, they are one of my favorite Habanos. Two-years at least on most sticks, for me personally. Bolivar is an exception, as they seem to be good after just a year. Had a BRC from 12/09 this week and it was spot on. Not that it won't be better in a few years, but when they're this good ... they won't last that long.
ksblazer Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Thanks for giving us the heads up on what's smoking well from the 2010 crop. Hope to try some soon. Will let you know when I do.
CBL Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 The only '10 box I've been smoking has been a Partagas D4 from april, it's been a hit and miss box so far, I really think it needs at least another 6 months. Wish I could keep my greedy impatient hands of them.
SeanL Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 I have a 2010 box of Bolivar Petit Coronas that is smoking well. My 2010 Partagas Shorts are also smoking well. Both of those boxes shall benefit from additional rest, but I don't think I'll be able to keep my hands out of them enough to truly age any. Looks like I'll have to get some more if I want to put them into deep sleep.
