I have a cheap desktop humidor now that holds close to 150... I am now in search of a new humidor! My wife has given me the blessing to spend up to 300 to 500 on a new one... Any suggestions? I would love a humidor that looks goes well with my furniture... (dark wood) atleast 200 count... thanks

Call Daniel Marshall and ask them to make you a 250 count humi in macassar ebony. On the left is my custom made DM humi in macassar that holds around 600 cigars and on the right is my 12 yr old DM humi that holds around 250. I think you can get an off the shelf DM 250 ct for around $600.

Spend 70 on a coolidor

I suggest a combo for various purposes.

I have a really gorgeous desktop humi for the office. It works there because the temperature is permanently cool due to round the clock air conditioning.

But for the home, i use a chiller for my personal reserve 20 boxes or so. And the rest in large humidors that i keep buried in a dark corner of the house.

A beautiful humi looks pretty and can be a great addition to the furniture. The problem with beauty is often capacity, and even 500 stick humis will begin to look small after a while. Hence a large chiller/coolidor or even a special purpose cabinet is recommended.

*Have you considered checking out Ebay? I know its reputation, but you can find some really sizeable furniture size humidors there & often they include free shipping. Also, my happy hats off to you for having an understandable, supportive wife with your cigar hobby (my brother-in-law is not so lucky!)

Hi 3putt,

Allow me to start with the fact that there's been a lot of threads on this suject here on the forum,

and as I've see, many members have some of the most beautiful Humidors that I've ever seen.

What must be said however, is that well, you get what you pay for at the end.

For MANY years , I've had friends ask me, where can I get a cheap Humi that works well and keeps my cigars

in good shape. I tell them that it's no problem if they buy a cheap Humidor, but on the other hand, don't go asking

too much from that Humidor either like, a good tight closure, cedar that doesn't have a strong oder, outside wood

that doesn't crack, interior that doesn't warp because of the humidity, etc. etc.

If you have the money to buy a cheap Humi, save some more to buy yourself a Humidor that will last you a lifetime.

I have a ELIE BLEU 100 count Humidor that I've now had for amost 30 years and it has not budged a hair in all does

years. Yes , many of the top notch Humidors are expensive, but you get what you paid for and for a VERY long time,

where as a cheap one will be replaced after 1 or 3 or 4 years, over and over again. Finally spending more then if you

had bought a great one from the start.

Again, this is just my opinion, for what it's worth. :2thumbs::huh:

You also need to consider your smoking habits. If you are only an occasional smoker, and are only looking for small box type humidor to match your furniture, the daniel marshall seconds are a killer value.

If you think you may become or are more of a hobbyist with a need to collect many boxes of cigars :2thumbs: then, you are going to want to look at a vinotemp wine fridge or the infamous coolidor. Both exellent values and have the ability to store 20-30 full boxes of smokes.

When you have finally lost your mind and given up on any type of limits to your cigar obsession, you will want a cigar cabinet like an avallo or an arstiocrat, or just a cheapie cabinet.

I own a daniel marshall, a vinotemp, a coolidor, and a full size 6 foot cabinet, for the most part all full, so I am speaking from an obsessed lunatics experience.

I agree with the others. If you already have a cheap desktop that works nicely, pick up a (couple) coolidor's for large amounts of stock and aging - at least one large cooler, if not two. Then, with the money saved, you can start to look around to order or build a nice cabinet to go with your furniture. It's something that takes a bit of time, to either build one yourself or to have one custom ordered and built, so get a cheap coolidor to get things rolling now.

Well, here's another vote for coolidor and beads. You can't beat them for high quality, low cost, efficient storage. Spend your money on quality sticks rather than a fancy humidor. Use your existing humidor for sticks you are currently smoking and the coolidor for storage and aging. In my experience, my humidor require quite a bit more mainteance to keep humidity within limits while I only have to maintain the coolers once or twice a year. So go coolers and go big!!

Another vote for Coolidors.

I decided to go the cooler route and couldn't be happier. They are so easy to maintain and very stable. For the money you can't beat it. I say spend the money saved on great smokes!

And someday if you find a beautiful humidor you must have, your cooler investment was very small.

As someone who has both desktops and a coolidor, I can see the arguments for both. If you want a nice piece of furniture, then a beautiful desktop is a great idea. People always remark at how nice my macassar humi is and it's a real conversation starter about cigars. Of course, now that I have filled up both of my desktops and my coolidor and am now putting overflow in a cooler, I am now getting an aristocrat. Had I to do it all over again, I would have just started off with a nice, custom designed aristocrat. Not only will it provide more storage than I think I'll ever need, but it also serves the function of a nice piece of furniture.
