Anyone have any of the box codes and dates below and if so, how are they smoking?

Also, If I had a chance to get a 50 cab from 06 would that be a better move?

I have a box of BLP MAY 08. These were initially really good. Med. full with lots of herbal flavors. Intense saffron in the back end. Really unique IMO. Within the last year or so, they have began to settle down and the flavor profile has changed. Now it's medium, mainly dry hay and milk chocolate, with maybe a little bit of woody flavors in there as well. I haven't smoked one in a while, so I can't really tell you much about how it progresses. There could be more complexity to these, but I'm just going off the general impression I have in my head.

I gave these a solid 93 when they were young, and now I think they're hovering somewhere between 88-90, so I'm going to just sit on them for a while and see what develops.

As for the actual sticks, construction is fantastic (I've smoked ~8 so far and draw and burn have been dead on on all of them). They have nice smooth wrappers with a fair bit of oil. Colorado in color with a bit of caramel shade to them.

I don't know anything about the 06 production, but I'd say don't get the 08s and expect to be wowed by them right away. They're likely going through a dull period.

Used to be my favorite cigar. I still like what I have from 02 & 03, but both 06 & 08 taste completely different. Not sure if there was a blend change or what, but it's like smoking completely different cigars. And I've been smoking the 02s & 03s since released. They were fine fresh & fine now.

*Sorry, loves, but as I buy singles these days and don't really press my reliable sources for box dates/codes, etc. I can't really comment on that particular query. Yet, let me say that I keep several Saint Luis Rey Serie A's onhand and I have never been disappointed, either in flavor, aroma or quality. And that is everytime!

I think I still have some Nov 08s that I haven't touched in a while... When I smoked them fresh a year ago they were quite "hearty" cigars, plenty of rich wood, eminently smokeable, reminded me a little bit of a milder Monte#2 blend. I imagine that now they will be much as mm12 says, a bit muddled, but 1-2 more years in the humidor and they could emerge like a more complex and balanced version of their younger selves... they seemed to have that potential in them because of the richness.

If you can see and touch them, have a sniff, the nose generally guarantees a lot better results than box codes/dates ...
