This post cracked me up only for its American ethnocentrism. Here we have an American on an Australian's web forum referring to others as "foreigners" and telling them that he feels bad for them because it's so expensive for them to buy something that he can buy more cheaply, although it is actually illegal for him to do so.

You know what cracks me up? Using the word ethnocentrism in connection with a new country. Do you think I'm a Native American? Why try for a big word if you don't even know what it means?

My comment was good natured and intended to point out the irony that buying something illegally somehow ends up cheaper due to the lack of taxes! It was tongue in cheek.

Relax, I thought it was funny. I was not trying to disparage you (after all, I am an American). And I am using ethnocentrism properly. . . "a tendency to view alien groups or cultures from the perspective of one's own." I am sure that Rob does not think he is a "foreigner" here.
