BradNC Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 In your cigar videos, I love how you have the box you are smoking from with you. My question is, will the box of cigars absorb the smoke odors from the tasting? Just wondering before I try this in my garage. I would really love the visual while I'm smoking from that box if it won't soak up the smoke and then bring that to my humidor if that makes sense. Thanks! Brad
investandprosper Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 So .... You want to hold the box of cigars while you smoke one?
mbrody Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 Brad, if you have proper ventillation, I don't think this will be an issue. If you don't have ventillation, then I would be concerned and would not do it. But, I am not El Prez...

Brad Brad....you know us....do you really believe we put that much thought into such things Mate I believe it will be fine but we do all of our reviews outdoors with plenty of ventialtion. I would do it anyway
anacostiakat Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 I do not believe that smoking a cigar around a box of cigars will make any difference whatsoever.
BradNC Posted November 21, 2010 Author Posted November 21, 2010 Thanks! I try and smoke outside if possible but find myself enjoying the solitude of the garage, especially now that it is colder here. I'll give it a whirl and report back.
investandprosper Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 I had a CoRo and a Party Short out in my garage. Amokes the CoRo first, and ended up putting the Short back in my desktop humi. The Short did have a smoky essence to it, but not bad.
adic88 Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I do not believe that smoking a cigar around a box of cigars will make any difference whatsoever. +1 to this. I know this is a fantastic hobby for all of us.. but, sometimes we just gotta let it all hang loose and not think too deeply about things.
Colt45 Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 To avoid cigarus smokulatis osmosis, avoid having boxes of cigars in proximity while smoking..........
adic88 Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 To avoid cigarus smokulatis osmosis, avoid having boxes of cigars in proximity while smoking.......... Hahah!
cigcars Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 To avoid cigarus smokulatis osmosis, avoid having boxes of cigars in proximity while smoking.......... *Yes, definitely. I wouldn't have my fresh, cedar scented unsmoked cigars out in the open & exposed to cigar smoke in the atmosphere. Don't see how they wouldn't pick up those fumes and absorb them in the fresher tobacco.
Guest rob Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 In times gone by - when it was legal to smoke indoors... it was usual to see people smoking in a cigar shop where shelves of cigards lined every wall.
Omskakas Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Cigars I got from one of my regular retailers used to smell like cigar smoke. I assume packers/shippers smoked either inside humidor or shipping room (or whatsitcalled). The smoke smell, fortunately, went away very quickly after I opened the package and put cigars in my humidor.
Van55 Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Somewhere there's a video of a UK cigar shop proprietor doing a review of one of the UK RE's in which he does much of the review smoking the cigar in the shop's walk-in humidor -- to avoid the ambient noise from the shop ruining the audio. My view is that the active smoke in the walk-in won't adversely affect the cigars in the humidor. However, leaving one or more partialy smoked dead cigars in there definitely will.

thechenman Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I'm not sure what kind of adverse effect smoking around exposed cigars would have. As mentioned in an earlier thread, I too have seen people smoking their cigars inside the walk-in humidors @ Barclay Rex in Manhattan, Cigar Inn in Manhattan, Cigars International in PA. J&R in Jersey and Manhattan. Even @ my local B&M in Westchester. It does not seem to have hampered any of their retail sales as far as I can tell.
Liuk Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Brad....you know us....do you really believe we put that much thought into such things :D
Warren Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Of far more concern are the occasions when Ken takes the opportunity to add a very different aroma to the event.
Guest Elektrobot Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 This topic is a pet peeve of mine- It bothers me when people smoke around cigars that are in storage. I believe all shops should have quarantined humidors and not allow stale smoke to settle into my future fine product
ajgagnon Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Have you ever seen how much they smoke at the factory? Sometimes I think that's how our cigars pick up some of their aromas. In fact, if you ever go to the Partagas factory in Havana, you may see a picture (or the real woman if she's still alive) of a lady smoking her daily 2.5" girth cannon. Very few teeth left, mind you. Also, check YouTube for videos about cigar making. When smelling tobacco from the various bales, most of the dudes seem to smell leaves with a puff of cigar smoke, presumably to get a better sense of what it will smell like when part of a cigar. In any case, I love the smell, so I wouldn't worry about this unless you parked the box next to the ash tray.
