skindiver Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 Halle...now there's a hottie... Now that stirs more than a few memories of my own!
Leopolis Semper Fidelis Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 I just did a search on YouTube withe the words "avengers wine duel" and sure nuff someone posted it. I unfortunately don't have the knowledge to attach a link, sorry bout that. Try clicking on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUzfwfdpkXA
Leopolis Semper Fidelis Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 Just in parting, if there was going to be a particular cigar for Bond should it make its debut of the "shaken, not stirred" realm it would be in my opinion, discontinued Cuban Davidoff & Dunhills ('cuz he'd find a way to get all he wants - the bum!) Of course - what else?!
Ken Gargett Posted November 29, 2010 Author Posted November 29, 2010 that is a great clip but the northern end of lafite is nonsense as they would draw grapes for the top wine from all over - especially back then. love the comparison - either a 65 algerian red or a very good old lafite. the lafite people must have hated that. and been watching the latter half of the bond - roger moore - films. from very often having a cigar, they completely disappear in the latter films. and for what it is worth, he starts to treat women a little better. perhaps there was some pressure at the time?
MaltPointer Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 The rule of thumb I use for martinis is this: Vodka--Shaken not stirred. The thinking is that shaking simultaneously gets the martini cold faster AND slightly increases the water content. Both of these make vodka more palatable. Gin--Stirred not shaken. Gin has sufficient flavor notes in it that excessive cooling masks some of those flavors. And the air bubbles generated by shaking make it more difficult for the drink to get to your taste buds. This is what people are referring to as "bruising." I've actually experimented a bit with this, and find that it has some merit, at least to my taste buds. And in the Ian Fleming James Bond books, Bond typically drank Gin Martinis, so the "stirred not shaken" line makes sense. In the movies, except for Casino Royale where Bond orders a "Vesper" martini, Bond typically ordered a Vodka Martini. Charles
Ken Gargett Posted December 7, 2010 Author Posted December 7, 2010 a brief update on connery as 007. he does take out a cigar - appears to be a lonsdale - in 'never say never again' but that is the only time i saw him do it. and no evidence he lights it. it was where he had given some heavy the case, told it was a bomb that would go off if any lateral movement and comes back and collects it much later. to the bloke's shock.
Fatcigar Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 ......................i know brosnan visits a cigar shop in the halle berry one. and i am thinking that bond is not quite the winelover suggested. the 57 dom? seriously? what planet? another bottle is served in 'man with the golden gun' and he notes that it reminds him very much of the 34 mouton.................. Interesting! Last night, I saw "Die Another Day" starring Brosnan where he was in Havana smoking a cigar (londsales-sized w/o band), while watching the shapely Halle Berry coming out of the water...now, that was a sight! came across this website which recorded the various year of Bollinger Mr. Bond drank....haha Only remark regarding cigar was the RYJ Churchill under 'Food & Drinks'! http://www.jamesbondlifestyle.com/index_fo...=fd&g=fd002
strayvector Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Just watched The Matador from 1995 with Pierce Brosnan, and in it, he smokes what looks like a Monte EL robusto.

strayvector Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Sorry...2005. Still trying to live in my glory days...still can't believe that I'm two decades removed now.
Ken Gargett Posted January 6, 2011 Author Posted January 6, 2011 Sorry...2005. Still trying to live in my glory days...still can't believe that I'm two decades removed now. to my eternal shame, i once saw dirty dancing 2, supposedly set in havana (my backyard is closer). one of the characters was smoking something that - only got the quickest of glances - looked extremely like a double banded LE. as it is set in the lead up to the revolution (if the revolution in cuba did nothing else, at least it provided a setting for endless films), it seems that someone might have made a small error.
cigaraholic Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 I've worked in the wine industry all my adult life and it's always amazed me with all the money Hollywood spends on a movie you'd think they'd have or hire someone who knows something about wine. 99% of the time they have the wrong shaped bottle or terrible vintage. I love the Saint with Val Kilmer when he orders two bottles of 58 Latour, missed it by a year.

reg Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Anyone notice the Wall Street 2 commercials with michael douglas? When they were first being shown while in theatres, he was smoking a cohiba, looked like a GR. Now that they are promoting the dvd release it looks like they changed the band for some reason. I haven't noticed what it is, something with a brown label.
