kiwicrusaders Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 I am hoping one of you kind souls can offer some guidance. I am going to be buying myself a box of cigars and would like your opinion. My favourite size is Robusta and Hermosos No.4. I dont really have the size in my desktop to be buying mutiple boxes and store for years on end. So typically its lifespan is only going to be 1-2 years. I am looking to choose between the following: - - Bolivar Royal Corona - Partagas D4 - San Luis Rey Regios I want something that has consistant quality of construction and has good flavour. One of the best cigars I have had to date has been a Vegas Robaina Famosos. I have tried a Partagas once before and was quite impressed as well, but am interested how these all compare. Thanks a stack for any advice.
Montaigut Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Hi KiwiCrusaders, If you are definitely restricted by your humidor size I would go for the Partagas. Great smoke, nary a dissapointing moment. But of course that is MY opinion. My best (and impartial) advice is to get a bigger humidor: so little time so many cigars! By the way, you could have done a lot worse than the Crusaders mate. Imagine being born in _______ !.
Erm310mce Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Hi Mate, My advice would be to grab a robusto split sampler box from Czar. It has 5 of the best robustos made. Those are 3 great choices you have but very different. Its a great way to figure out what you like. Good luck!
cigcars Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 *Everybody likes the three robustos you've listed. Not being a robusto person, myself, there are really only 2 that I've had that I was truly impressed with, the one being probably nearly impossible to get ahold of - the Bolivar Centenary, and the one you did mention and that was the Vegas Robaina Famosos. After that, I'd choose the Saint Luis Rey Regios. My humble opine
Colt45 Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 I agree with going the sampler route, and with making sure there are some VR Famosos included (though I do feel the VR takes a few years to come around)
CBL Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 I was gonna say Partagas D4, they're smoking great the past years and I have a box from april '10 that were smoking fine around september straight of the truck (I'm letting them rest a little now) BUT! The sampler box is an even better way to go! I have a big humidor that's filled with full boxes and that I can't get to daily (it's at my parents' house) and a small one with 3 boxes and a handful of singles that's at my apartment and I can tell you this, I'm starting to get sick of those 3 boxes when I'm smoking on a daily basis. You really need some variety in your smoking selection.
LeafLover Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Definitely the sampler split. Get all of the samplers. Rob is a genius, or whosever brainchild this was.
jacksfull Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Not to throw a wrench in the works, but the best Robustos I've had in a long while are some RyJ Short Churchills in tubos from Jun 08. I wouldn't leave those out of the mix. Note that a recent thread here revealed several FoH-ers seemingly in agreement that the tubos are the way to go with the RyJ SC. At least add a 3-pack and see if you agree.
