Among the local FOH crew I know horses and cards run deep :D

Outside of one day a year I don't bet on any race with a jockey. Not a casino sort of guy. I don't play cards for money. I actually love gambling but I made a decision when I was 20 that I could love it too much and I have no doubt, given my passion for vices, that it was the right decision.

So who amongst us loves a punt, has owned a racehorse, has left the casino at dawn? enjoys an online Poker Game?

One of my favourite stories is a good mate who owned racehorses with some success and going through a divorce (another) was offered a $15K 1/8th share in a racehorse with friends he had owned racehorces with before. Money was a tad tight and he thought he might need the $15K so he passed. The racehorse was sold 18 months ago to stud (UAE synidcate) for $30 Million :rotfl:

I have plenty of other mates who's horse have never made it past the barrier trials :rotfl:

I always wanted to own a racehorse and name it My Face... mainly because I wanted to watch the well dressed tossers in the private boxes yell, "Come on My Face!!"... :D

Chalk me up as an avid gambler! Never higher stakes than I could handle, but I love nothing better than to put down a wager on sports, hit the Blackjack tables, watch the Roulette wheel go or sidle up to an open Poker table. Worst loss I ever had was $500 in one night in my first foray into Vegas :rotfl: .......but I got back at them!

My Finest gambling moment was in my 2nd trip to Vegas for a week-long stag. Wasn't interested in the club one night, so I went to Mirage and put 50$ on the Craps table, never having played the dice before in my life. My friend meekly followed with 20 of his own. The table boss, an Ex-Marine named Tino, told us he'd teach us the game.

....9 hours later, at 8 am, we strolled back to our MGM Grand room with $1350 combined winnings (900 for me, 450 for my friend). You'd have thought we had made it with Keeley Hazell, to have to see the giddy looks on our faces! :rotfl:

Could never get a feel for Horse racing though. I don't know why. I'd rather bet on the non-animal sports I suppose :D

I left Vegas a couple of months ago with and extra $200 in my pocket. Started with $40. Not a bad hour.

I do like to play some poker now and then and have accounts with a few online poker sites. I play in some tournaments online and occasionally play some cash games. No limit hold em is my choice of games but have been known to play blackjack as well. I also play golf for a wager or two. I don't consider myself a gambler but rather a sports afficionado who enjoys a little action.

<--- Degenerate gambler. I'll be in vegas in a few weeks on business, plan on a little gambling during my "down time".

Most I have ever lost was 11K in a single hand of poker.

I have won a lost huge amounts over the years, but tend to be better behaved in my more "mature" years.

Dear God I had to spend a day at the races with Rob a few years ago, I was sure that I was going to have to pull him away from the bookies clawing at the floor, I made him promise to never go to the races without me so I can make sure I have a job come to LOLOL Only joking ;) )

Worked in a gaming venue for 6 months and if anything brings a hate for gambling it is working with 350 + pokie/slot machine... Icouldn't wait to stop working there , most depressing place to work ever :(

I was in deep end when i was a student. Lost about 5-10k. My game at the time was black jack and baccarat. I managed to lose 1k in the space of a cpl minutes at blackjack table. Now i'm a bit more mature, the only gambling i do is poker among friends and and little bit soccer betting during cup competitions ie. World cup and euros. Thinking of doing some punts during the rugby world cup.

*Oh Man have I got stories for you all...but I'll keep it short. Just briefly, in my horse betting days (I am a Louisville, Kentucky native - and Churchill Downs only a few miles distance) you always bet according to the jockey riding the horse. Pat Day, Jose`Can-/Casa/Cansa -( sorry, I was plastered at the time), whatever his name was, they were the ones you could safely bet by and carry a nice piece of change home.

*In my army days at Ft. Dix, New Jersey (1982 - '84) I'd go to Atlantic City on weekends. Long, late night, crazy stories later, I found a set of One-armed Bandits at the Resorts Hotel adjacent to the Oyster bar that ALWAYS paid off. I'd gamble $100, and go home with over $100 which isn't terrible considering all possible loss. Again, I was HAMMERED, but always had fun fun FUN!

Aaahhh - those were the days. As I've said, I've shortened my soujourns thru my years of fun in drinkin', dancing, gambling, rumbling, chasing folks, being chased by folks, athletic enough to jump, run, dodge under tables...yep, fun days! ;);):P

Very similar in my case, except from when I was 17. I was first exposed to poker machines back then, but I avoided them because I knew I'd get addicted if I played them too much. I have put $20 in no more than three times in my life if memory serves. Luckily, ironically enough, not once did I win. I might very well have been caught in the trap otherwise. In any case, I've not touched the things since then.

I've placed a few bets for various things online, but it was a similar situation. Never winning even once makes you lose interest. However, I do gamble $30 per week on lotteries. Either Oz Lotto (Tuesdays), Powerball (Thursdays) and/or the Saturday Lotto. I used to like the idea of putting around $10 toward each of them per week, as if you only do it for one of the days, you may be tempted to gamble more money. With this system, if you don't win on Tuesday, you can think "well, maybe on Thursday..." and so on, without having to wait a whole week. Although that was for 'Standard' games, I stick with 'Systems', now, and put $20~ toward the one with the highest prize, and $10 toward the second highest. It still saves you waiting a whole week, so there's not too much chance of that 'GAMBLEMORE' urge to kick in.

I can afford to possibly waste $30 each week, where if I ever win I'd be set for life. The same can't be said about pokies. In the long run you lose a hell of a lot more there, and even if you do have a good $800~ win or something, you can't retire on that. :P

Am I a gambler?

Every time I walk through the door at the end of a hard day I roll the dice.

And wouldn't you know it, old snake eyes is always just inside.

I have been involved in a monthly poker game for the past 12 years. It is what I like to refer to as a friendly game, we sit around drinking and of course smoking cigars. It never gets too serious but there is always the potential to get cleaned out.

Most players show up with a bankroll of about $300. I have left with $50 and recouped my losses the following month leaving with $500 in my pocket. Great fun.

Slow horses and fast women has been the downfall of many a man! :wink2:

I don't gamble any more. I can barely keep up with the vices I have now. :lol3:

I love to bet horses although I only do it a few times a year. I used to bet college football a great deal but I was never very good at it so i gave that up for the most part because i got sick of losing money on what i thought were "sure things". If in a casino, which is rare, you'll probably find me at the blackjack table. I am pretty good about quitting when I have reached my predetermined limit of wins/losses and i do it purely for entertainment. I've always been a paragon of self-restraint...

I like to gamble...in a way, I think that is what draws me to making my living on the stock market. I don't think I am an out of control gambler, but I do like to take risks. I don't play the ponies, but will bet on NFL football and college basketball; however my true passion is for table games...my favorites being Poker (No Limit - Texas Hold'em), Craps and Blackjack.

I'll play online poker from time to time, but it is not as interesting as playing face to face. My local cigar lounge has a regular Monday night game, but it is tough to get to with work and all, but I did win $500 there about 3 weeks back. Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose, them's the breaks. I've never lost more than $800 in a sitting, and the biggest hand I've ever won was at NL poker for $10K.
