What is it about cigars?

Whenever I need to make a significant decision I find solace in a cigar and glass of wine. For some reason last night I flicked on Fox and clicked on Boston legal and watched (one of the rare occasions) the last 15 minutes and there where the two main characters finishing a confronting day with a cigar and a glass of scotch. Great show on the rare occasions I catch it.

I can only speak for myself. Cigars bring to me a tremendous clarity of thought should I need it....as well as nothing at all should I desire such a state.

Arguments become clearer, strategies crystallized, zen achieved.

Perhaps I am elevating rolled up weed to a level far above its station. Perhaps not.

Your thoughts?

I agree. Some of my most well received ideas have been hatched while smoking a cigar. I also find them to be a nice companion for some of the more tedious paperwork jobs of drudgery.

It's all in the nicotine, Rob. ;)

Nicotine's mood-altering effects are different by report: in particular it is both a stimulant and a relaxant.[30] First causing a release of glucose from the liver and epinephrine (adrenaline) from the adrenal medulla, it causes stimulation. Users report feelings of relaxation, sharpness, calmness, and alertness.[31] Like any stimulant, it may cause the often catastrophically painful neuropsychiatric effect of akathisia. By reducing the appetite and raising the metabolism, some smokers may lose weight as a consequence.[32][33]

Yes I find that nothing clears a fog inside your head like a cloud of smoke around the outside of it.

Well said!

I hardly do any proper thinking without a cigar lately. Almost all my homework is done with a nice cigar to help me keep my mind on track. And I'm planning on lighting on right after this post to be my companion during some school reports I have to write

Midterms are next week, thank god I got some big cigars to help me study :P

I do feel the same. My smoking time is relatively undisturbed from outside elements, which means not being distracted "from thought". The act of smoking a cigar itself is also non distracting. Similar to taking a squat on the porcelain throne. There's a thought... smoke a cigar on the crapper. That could be REALLY productive :P

*One thing, it WILL produce a contrasting variety of "aromas"!!!:fuel::P

I was going to post something, but, well, after reading the last couple of posts, I don't believe I have anything of value to add. Y'all are nuts.

Too bloody right. Nothing else matters when you are lost in the swirly smoke of a cigar for an hour or two. In a way different to when you get shattered via booze. If one uses liquor as an escape when they are feeling mad or sad, you just feel much worse the next day; and I'm not talking about any hangover. It's not the same with a cigar. I could go for one right now if I wasn't going to work. Got a lot of things on my mind. Alcohol makes you forget, cigars make you feel.

*Note: Alcohol is Life. If you detected any anti-booze sentiment in this post, you are surely mistaken. Always read the fine-print. Spoken by Blah-Blah-Blah, Canberra.

Yes, I have had a few moments of clarity enveloped by a sense of serenity while smoking.

It seems while working with a cigar in hand I've also had the above mentioned moment of "clarity". Some of my better designs have been born in a cloud of smoke.

Cigars is the epitome of "ME" time. Some people fish, some read books for leisure, some surf the web for ME time. I smoke cigars.

The only thing that could be more pleasant is to combine ME time activities with my cigar such as above mentioned.

I definitely have a Zen thing going on when I smoke. I actually used to try and read the paper or a book while smoking, but I actually find that it's so contemplative that I'm happy just to sit and let the mind wander

Hello Prez and fellow FOH'ers,

Interesting question you have posed. For me, it really doesn't have that much to do with any of the cigar's chemical effects upon me, but rather the definition of cigar smoking opportunity for me. I smoke in a clandestine manner, not really wanting my wife or boys to know and/or see me. So, for me, it is always my special time for just me. I get away into our woods and have a peaceful, quiet time to enjoy the natural surroundings and just relax and comtemplate life. This is my cigar time. A special moment carved out of a busy life, to step back from the rush.

Thank you,

Curtiss
