habanablue Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Haven't posted for a while, but just lit up one of these tonight. Personally, the use of the word ‘wide’ and ‘short’ negates the inclusion of the ‘Churchill’ size reference, but that is another matter. The cigar’s wrapper is light colorado in colour with some oil apparent and is slightly veiny, The smell at cold is classic barnyard, with a light earthiness flavour in the pre-light draw. The RyJ begins with a very light perfume - a nice warm aroma, with nothing too spicy on the nose. The first third is not overly complex, but beautifully balanced and puts one in a very reflective mood. A perfect draw is expected these days and the stick doesn't disappoint in this regard. The Second third continues in much the same way as the first albeit with a slight increase in a floral aroma. The trend continues toward the end of the stick, and unlike the William Shakespeare tragedy, doesn't provide an overly emphatic good-bye. The Wide Churchill is definitely a smooth cigar, but not one you would reach for if you were after intense flavours. I think it would be a great cigar to pair with Champagne as its well-balanced, light aromas would complement a dry bottle style of bubbly.
adic88 Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Thanks for this, i've got a couple sitting in the humidor, now i've got a good idea what to expect.
craigos Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 This cigar has turned into a regular at work where novice cigar smokers are enjoying it a great deal. Nice and light.
dicko Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Personally, the use of the word ‘wide’ and ‘short’ negates the inclusion of the ‘Churchill’ size reference, but that is another matter. so true! thanks for the review, seems to be a decent cigar.
habanablue Posted November 5, 2010 Author Posted November 5, 2010 so true! thanks for the review, seems to be a decent cigar. definitely decent. A cigar you can puff on and enjoy, but won't blow you away with bursts of intense flavour.
thechenman Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 I'm looking forward to trying this one soon. Shouldn't be too much longer now.
bassman Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Good timing- I smoked my first yesterday & was pleasantly surprised. I found the cigar pretty strong & spicy. Very enjoyable. Only problem for me is it is too fat! The problem is solved as I find the flavor similar to my 06 RyJ EX#3s, so I'll happily keep smoking those.
CanuckSARTech Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Thanks for the review, Habana. I've got two or three of these from a recent trade with another Forum member. I'm looking forward to trying these soon. I'm a fan of the R&J line initially, as they were my first Cubans. But things lately have been very up and down with them. I'll keep my fingers crossed that these recent releases will aim to please. Thanks again for the review. A great primer for me on these.
Bartolomeo Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 Great review, did a recent box split of these and waiting to sample mine, should be fun Bart
mbrody Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 Gotta say that they look and smell good...another couple of weeks and I will try one! Thanks for the review...
