I had a surprise when I got home from the salt mines today !

A fresh box of Cohiba Siglo l's were waiting on me .

When I opened the box , it had the pleasant aroma of cedar and may I dare say I think I smelled a hint of chocolate ? Wow ! Yeah ..... I couldn't resist I had to have one ! I'd better be careful ....it might sound like I'm trying to do my first review !!!

My question is what to do with these jewels ( besides smoke them ) ! Do they go directly into my humidor to store (hopefully) for a month or two ? Or does it improve the cigars by keeping them in the original box for a while ?

I've noticed some of you store your smokes in tupperware containers . I have a small humidor and I plan to build up my stash . Is the tupperware a temporary fix and what is the proper way to store your smokes in it ?

I do believe I've got more gifts coming .....this is great !!! Can't wait to share these cc's with my family and friends during the up and coming holidays !

Well, with the tupperware, in the days when money was funny & a hard, real humidor wasn't in the works, from the boxes of cigars I did acquire I would save the cedar sheets and line a rectangle tupperware on the sides, bottom & top then put my smokes inside. I had a damp cloth attached to the top of the lid which I would re-wet as needed. As far as your question about whether to put the whole box in the humidor - I think it's only a matter of ROOM to put the whole box inside. Most of us would have to take the cigars out and put them in the humidor. If I had room, like a furniture shifferobe size or closet size humidor - yes I would DEFINITELY keep them in their individual boxes. Not necessarily for aging-type particulars as much as for both identification dates & factories on the boxes and for aesthetic pleasure. Maybe some more experienced persons out there may know a bit more about the particulars of boxed or out in the humi!!! :D

Certain cigars are presumed to age better in their actual boxes. Varnished boxes, and sliding-lid-boxes (of which, your box has both features), are reputed to impart better aging and a "contained"/concentrated effect to their flavours and aging.

If you're able to, depending on size constraints as Cig said, best to keep them in the box in your humidor/container.

If you search the Humidor Tutorial section of the Forum, you'll find all sorts of discussion and advice on this type of thing.

If they smell good to you, smoke one to see what they taste like right now. If they taste good and are ready to be smoked, leave them in the box as they are. Changing their arrangement, the amount of air/oxygen they are exposed to and/or seperating the "tobacco on tobaco" arangement, could cause unpredictable change to you may not like. I would not remove them for a while until I had a good understanding of what I had. Perhaps, I would stick one or two in one of my humis to let it acclimate... If it isn't broken, don't fix it!!! :)

(YMMV)

I can only echo what's already been said. If you have the room, leave them in the box. If not, I would have no problem taking them out

and storing them in my desktop.

When you go for new storage - go big!

I'll second this. Buy one of those big storage humidors, the one with shelves. Not necessarily a huge cabinet, but something big enough to fit half a dozen boxes of various sizes. And if you can find one with a small drawer where you can store individual sticks, that's a good bonus.
