Scania Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 We used to ... honey , coco , coffee , vanilla, caramel... Today i discover something new ... mushroom !
dicko Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Certainly. In bolivar pc's especially and also in partagas sometimes. What was the cigar you had??
micha Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 I was quite surprised when I found a Cohiba Siglo II tasting of sautéed mushrooms when I got into the second third. That was fairly new to me back then and I'm not sure if it's a signature flavour for a Siglo II (I guess not). Nevertheless it was something I really liked and would like to find again in another cigar.
SigloIII Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 We used to ... honey , coco , coffee , vanilla, caramel...Today i discover something new ... mushroom ! The hoyo epicure #2 was almost exclusively mushroom. Personally I didn't care for the flavor too much but it was smooth
Danashan Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Partagas has a definite mushroom component, IMHO
El Presidente Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Mushroom charachter is quite common across several cigars. I find Upmanns have this trait but it is only part of the mix of flavours.

investandprosper Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Maybe that's the unexplainable flavor I've been tasting in Upmanns lately. I'm not particularly fond of mushrooms, but this flavor did have that sort of musky fungal essence to it. I enjoyed it
Yoruba Hacker Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 The original Cohiba Pyramide ELs were famously "mushroom-y"
Baldy Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 Same affect as magic mushrooms? Now there's a cigar I'd smoke hourly.
CBL Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 Just finished smoking a Hoyo Du Roi and the first 3rd had distinct mushroom flavors! Almost meaty, like the way you get some nice saliva action in the back of your mouth when you eat a juicy steak! Loved it!
adic88 Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 I really can't say i've had mushrooms in a cigar before! From what i gather about the psychology of cigar tasting is that it depends very much on our individual memory perceptions and also the emotions associated to each memory. Say you're having a piece of chocolate cake, its delicious, and you're very happy while you're eating that. You tend to remember this type of scenarios quite vividly. The brain works on a series of hooks (essentially our neurons are a gigantic network of hooks, all linked together). Therefore, when a sensation comes in (such as the flavour of a cigar), it's natural that the brain deals with this by looking for similarities with whatever else has already been stored in our brains. And, the hooks which shine the brightest (the awesome chocolate cake during that wonderful birthday party), will tend to have precedence in the ensuing associations.
