Laxman Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 These babies would make Desi Arnaz happy. Loved that show growing up. Have an 08 box of Lusies I layed down a year ago. Smoked a few and they have been spot on. Broke one out last night and it knocked my socks off! What a great cigar. Intense creamy flavor, earthiness, a touch of pepper. When this cigar is on its tough to top IMO. By the time I got down too the last third I was in utter bliss, only problem was that I could not finish the last two inches because my head was spinning. The hour after I smoked it my mouth was still spinning with the flavor of that wonderful cigar and left me wanting another.
aes8 Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 A late 90's Lusi was my first CC and it is what hooked me forever. Glad to hear they are back. I'm have two boxes of 08's resting in the coolidor. Can any of the members that have been around long enough comment on the Lusis of the early 90's vs the Lusis of the late 90's?
Leopolis Semper Fidelis Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 I had a box of 1992 Lusitanias. Those cigars were sublime. I then tried some produced in the mid-1990's, and was shocked. The flavour was mediocre. They weren't the Lusitanias that I had remembered and loved - a totally different animal. Then I learned that the blend had changed about 1995: so that explained it. I have yet to smoke recent vintages, but I've been told some haven't been too bad.
laficion Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 The best Lusitanias that I've ever smoked came from a cabinet of 50's , date, 2003 that we bought in Havana during our first trip as a cigar club in 2004. We bought 3 cabinets of 50. The cabinets came from LCDH y Licorera in Havana at the Palacio de Artesania. These lusitanias were so fantastic, Rich & creamy, lots of leather & barnyard aromas, with just the right amount of spices. A true experience that is very difficult to describe but all I can say is, I've never had anything close ever since. One of our club member still has a cabinet with about 30 sticks left, Here is a photo. Just Divine !!!!!!
FireDigger Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 Don't we all! I have a box of 25 from 09. Would love to get a cab of these one day, but right now, the dress box would do.
bassman Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 92 Lusis were the best regular production cigar I ever smoked. Then tried every year from 97 onward & they were major disappointments. Little strength or flavor. MAJOR comeback in 2008. Still nowhere near pre 95 style, but stronger than recent years & lots of flavor. How are the 09s?
FireDigger Posted October 24, 2010 Posted October 24, 2010 How are the 09s? I haven't had one yet, just couldn't find the time...

Nice to have confirmation of my opinion that the post-1995 Lusitanias have been a different breed, and not as impressive as the earlier ones. Thanks, Bassman!
micha Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 I just love the Lusies, definitely one of my favourite cigars and a special smoke for special moments. I have discovered them only a few months back when I tried an 09 from my local vendor. It was perfectly creamy right down to the nub. It had spice, it had milk coffee, wonderful toasted tobacco and much more. What a great journey it took me on. Smoked a few since and they were all great. Made me buy a 10 ct. box (only, but I read somewhere in the forum or heard it in the review that these appear to be exceptionally good) at Czars and the first ones are soon going to be smoked. Though I can't report on the 90s, the 09s I had so far were glorious. They have a permanent space reserved in my humi.
