Making my first trip to Montreal this week. Long weekend. Staying in Old Montreal.

Any advice?

Where to smoke? (was thinking LCDH)

Anything not to miss? (places, food, etc)

Thanks!

You can smoke in the LCDH as long as you buy from them. They close at 6PM though. So go earlier.

Stogies is a nice place to hang out for a cigar. I believe they let you smoke your own as long as you're ordering drinks. You can smoke inside or outside too. Check with them ahead of time.

I second Dunn's or Schwartz's for deli sandwiches. They are a "must have" when in Montreal.

Nightlife is amazing in Montreal. There a few districts. The two I recall are located by Scwhartz's and Stogies. Lots of gorgeous women in Montreal too.

There are some good food markets in Montreal, where we often ate, good fresh food.

There is a good lcdh round the corner from Jaques Villeneuves bar(new town),which is full of posh beautiful people.

Some good atmosphere in normal bars, always the best place to go...

no offence to any locals but i hate the place. ranks just below nairobi for horror cities for me. can't think of much worse.

Really? Montreal, Canada? Is there another Montreal you may have visited in the world? Worse off than Nairobi?

Ken. What happened to you there? Did the mob kidnap you, tuck you into a potato sack, beat you with hockey sticks and dip you in/out of the St Lawrence river for a few hours?

Methinks there's a story or two behind your "Montreal Malice" :cigar:

If you list the top cities of planet Earth based on on sophistication, cosmopolitanism, joie de vivre,

laid back atmosphere, safety, friendliness, acceptance of diversity, welcoming of strangers,

and an all-year party atmosphere, Montreal, IMHO, ranks just behind Barcelona.

I'm not so sure that Swampalia, Qld, makes the top 100...

long sad stories. ottawa, toronto, vancouver, edmonton, calgary, whatever it is way out in nova scotia, even quebec - all terrific places and loved the lot. montreal could slide into the deepest hole in the earth and not be missed by me.

i accept i am not in the majority on this but i hated everything about the place.

the fact that incompetent morons masquerading as doctors nearly killed me didn't help. and i assure you i am far from alone in my view on the city's medical "professionals". almost every canadian i met when travelling there had a story, none of them good, and one doctor in toronto told me that if the issue ailing me recurred i was to go immediately to the nearest hospital if i wanted to live, "unless i was in montreal when i was to go to the nearest airport and catch the first plane to anywhere else, then go straight to the nearest hospital".

but we do agree on barcelona.
