jackohalloran Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Im going to be buying my mate his first cigar, and im trying to think of the best first cigar. not to big maybe a corona and mild to medium bodied, not to expensive . Really want him to enjoy his first stogie. Any suggestions FOH's??
Puros Y Vino Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 RyJ Petit Corona. Good size, medium bodied. Worked for my friend. Now he's hooked.
Colt45 Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 The first that come to mind for me are the Montecristo No.5 and No.4. The sizes aren't overwhelming for a first ever cigar, and I think the flavor gives a good indication of what Cuban cigars can be like. Neither should break the bank.
Ryan Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 There are some Trinidad Reyes for a good price at the bottom of Grafton Street. They're smoking well and I know I'd have been very happy if that was the first cuban cigar I smoked.

Sefton Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 About six months ago, I gave a friend his first cuban cigar - an Hoyo Epicure Especial - which he now refers to as his "gateway cigar." It was the perfect first cuban for him because it's mild and creamy and I knew wouldn't blow him out. Of course, now when he comes over he reaches for the Bolivars!
dicko Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 RyJ Petit Corona.Good size, medium bodied. Worked for my friend. Now he's hooked. x 2. same story with my mate.
CanuckSARTech Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 I completely agree with Bster and Colt, and for all the same reasons mentioned. A perfect start, if a good one is had.
Cooolish Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 I would vote for HDM epicure especial .. Perfect beginner cigar .. Not overwhelming and get u hooked.. It worked on me
jsd Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 I vote for the Epicure Especial as well. Great cigar for smokers of all stages in my opinion.
Leopolis Semper Fidelis Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 I vote for the Epicure Especial as well. Great cigar for smokers of all stages in my opinion. It receives my vote too. Recent Montecristo No. 4 are too strong for beginners.
cigcars Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 *If he's a beginner you may want to develop and adjust his palate with a plain, non-descript Honduran or Dominicans, get him oriented with that first. After some weeks to a month & a half, then get him a mid-grade Cuban like a Quintero or Jose L. Piedra. THEN let him try the Partagas, Monte Cristo, etc. I've got good friends who've been used to the ordinary here, like Macanudos, etc. ( ) then when I gave them authentic havanas, their socks were blown off.
jacksfull Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 +1 for the Monte 4 or 5... (or the #4 as a Petit Tubos) Alternate: Cohiba Siglo I or II I always like the idea of gifting a tubed cigar so the recipient has a souvenir... in this case of his 1st cigar.
