my understanding was that it was not so much concerns re corruption that kept howard out but that he is seen as pro test cricket and the sub-continent is much more aligned to shorter versions.

Quite right, money and media are tearing chunks from cricket.

I still clutch on to the hope that there is still some honour in cricket

From what I understand,it wasn't only about versions of the game, the sub continent pretty much believes it controls cricket now,and therefore chose their own candidate.

It seems that all the other cricketing boards, and the icc,are bleeding all they can from it while it lasts.

There has been cheating and gambling on cricket since the game began - I recall that in Victorian times gambling was rife and where gambling is rife then people are bought. Pure and simple.

It's a shame. It probably cannot be eradicated just minimised and strictly policed so people think twice before doing it knowing that if caught their professional life is over

i did read somewhere that the first recorded exaple of match fixing was back in the 1870's or 1880's somewhere in england.

no doubt has always existed but the last decade has seen it explode as so many more opportunities with bets able to be placed on just about anything, a la no balls.
