dicko Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Hello all, I ahven't posted a review in a while thought i should. Its been bloody cold, been sick back to uni, been getting to gym a bit more blah blah blah all weak excuses so thought i needed to pull up a chair and rip out a cigar. been eyeing off this thin guaged beauty for a while bought a few singles. looks good and feels good, maybe not the best wrapper ever. smells pretty pungent tobacco at cold maybe a bit earthy. initial draws/1st third - imagine a campfire with a metal saucer filled with milk which you ahve left on a bit too late, the smell of tea leaves from another saucer off to the side a few metres, someone has dropped in a raspeberry or two into the milk saucer. lovely ash and pepper through the nose (much stronger than i expected). body is medium full. -going from burnt milk to more creamier flavour after an inch but the campfire and ash is still there (it's not overbearing, quiet nice actually). - good toasty tobacco and earthy core, to accompany the milk and campfire flavour - yep someones chucked on a jarrah log onto the fire, little bursts of wood and 'smoke' coming through the nose and some puffs on the palate. definitely can tell there is a bit of age on the stick, has a dusty tannin quality to it, like a wine from a cellar. 2nd - milk, light earthyness (dusty not forest floor), woodchips and dried out timber dominate. really mellowed into medium body and bit less intense through nose but still have to take this serious, big blasts of pepper if i pull too often/too quick. I'm thinking i need to add more thin guage to my reportoire -heaps of smoke - charry characters popping up amongst the milk/earth mellow flavours...looking for a new flavour to come through, just a tad one dimensional but still lovely. -some bread notes 3rd - now im trying not to be biased from reading other people's reviews but the last few puffs I got a lovely gob of honey flavour! this is the change up i was looking for - back to creamy woody tobacco, bit of charred characters bordering on unpleasant, nice spice through the nose. perfect draw throughout. final score - 91 really enjoyed the size and flavour profile. maybe slightly less development but will look to get my hands on more will try and post pics later Thanks for reading, Dicko
MontrealRon Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Thanks for a really great review. This cigar is one of my all time favorites, and perhaps the best, most typical, and most consistant smoke in the LGC lineup. The '02s are possibly the last batch made, and they are still available, though surely not for much longer.
dicko Posted August 27, 2010 Author Posted August 27, 2010 thanks mate i was wondering why there seemed to be so many 02's about in reviews and shops. it would be a shame if they didn't make any more, especially as it is a favourite of yours.
CanuckSARTech Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Awesome, thanks Dicko. Great visualizations to explain your experience. Sounds like an enjoyable time was had.
bolivr Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 Nice one Dicko. I have a few left in a 10 box and like to get through them slowly when I can allocate the time to really sit and appreciate. Great review!

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if someone in Cuba is still making 02's. BTW, I like these.
maalouly Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 Good stuff Dicko, ordered some #2's looking forward to trying them when I get back from India . Loved the description of all the flavours you were getting, I think a lot of us were able to relate to them. Keep up the good work, and good to see you've been healthy. Cheers, Elie.
Leopolis Semper Fidelis Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 Unfortunately, the La Gloria Cubana Médaille d'Or No. 1, and its sibling, the No. 3, have been discontinued this year. The No. 2 and No. 4 still survive.
dicko Posted August 28, 2010 Author Posted August 28, 2010 here's the photos, what an elegant size...quality not great, most phones are better tech than my camera, needs replacing with a younger, hotter version!
