mkz Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 In the name of science, one unknown NC met its destiny... 3 minutes. 900W (overkill I know). Before: Stored at 65-66%. Perfect spoungy feel. No signs of drieness or cracks. In process: After: Besides the quite nice smell of toasted bread the cigar cracked immidiately when I pinched it between my fingers. Dry as dust! Conclusion: I would NEVER do this to my stash!!! Cant see that any cigar would recover after this treatment. Even if it is put in the freezer, fridge or dishwasher.

Maybe it was supposed to be 3 minutes for a whole box?
thechenman Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 I do seem to recall the instructions mentioning that you should put in the whole box or bundle, not a single or a few singles....
mkz Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 But there are no living beetles in it, right? If there were any Im pretty shure they are dead by now. I do seem to recall the instructions mentioning that you should put in the whole box or bundle, not a single or a few singles.... Cant really see the difference and guess what... Im not gonna put in a whole box of my precious cigar! If someone do. Make shure to remove any metal hinges, clasps or nails before starting up...

Relieved to know that no CC was hurt in the making of this experiment.
Omskakas Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Cant really see the difference and guess what... Im not gonna put in a whole box of my precious cigar! What I mean is that a cup of water boils in about two minutes in full power. Try with a litre and you'll end up with lukewarm water. If you use a single cigar instead of a box you should cut down either power, time or both. I'd say 30 seconds might be enough to kill any bugs inside of a single cigar. After nuking you should re-humidify the cigar and then smoke it.
El Presidente Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 I can confirm lisa stormed onto the deck yesterday afternoon complaining that Smithy had managed to stink out the downstairs floor of Czars with his experiment
Leopolis Semper Fidelis Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 I've given the budding publisher the "thumbs down". It's obvious that the author is actually an enemy of our passion, and must be treated with the contempt he so rightly deserves. If he comes out with garbage like that, his dissertation must be full of
SnakeHips Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 I've heard experienced guys suggest microwaving for beetles, but not for 3 minutes! It was more on the order of 15 seconds in a regular 1200w microwave, which should kill off mold, beetle larvae, etc. without actually affecting the tobacco in any way. But I can't say I'd do it
