As someone who does enjoy an occasional Padron, I would go as far as to say that on average, a PSD4, Hoyo Epi 2, and even a JL2 is better than any Padron.   So I'm baffled how anyone would ever t

When you're talking two cigars at those high levels, it's no longer a question of quality but of style. Don't confuse preference with quality. I've seen both operations many times and both are at the

I’d say with the price increases Cohiba have to be better. I mean a $60 dollar cigar is surely superior to a $17 dollar cigar.

If they were both priced the same I would smoke a Cohiba every time other than if I was in the mood for a Maduro. There in my opinion is where the Padron 64 Anni shines.

I can say that Cohibas from El Laguito and Havana's mother factories are indeed superior to provincial Cohibas. That is a much better, more meaningful comparison and a matter of objective standards. Despite both bearing the Cohiba label, the tobaccos are different. The treatment of the tobaccos are different. You can see it in the construction, the combustion, the taste, and in their inability to age with any grace.

Not even slightly my experience. Smoked many cohibas across many factories and never experienced anything close to what you are saying.

Cohiba, but as stated by others, a matter of taste versus a comment on quality.  Although, in my experience, I have noticed that most newcomers to either cigars or wine tend to start off more new world, where the taste profiles tend to be more obvious and straightforward, and eventually, as they become more experienced, seem to migrate more towards old world, where the taste profiles tends to be more nuanced and complex. But of course, there are exceptions to every rule.

When someone says they'd rate Padron higher than the whole Cohiba marca..

THE singular cigar that got me “hooked” on cigars was a Padron ‘64 Anniversario Exclusivo in a maduro wrapper. That cigar had at least 5 years of proper age on it. It smelled like a stick of peppermint and still to this day is my favorite cigar of all time. Having said that, I’ve never been able to reproduce the wonderful smell and taste of that first one.

My vote would be the Cohiba. For me, there is nothing like the Cuban “twang” that is consistent throughout all the Cuban brands but especially the Cohiba.

My thoughts. Both can be great. From a person who pre 2010 never smoked CCs. But since 2013ish only smokes CCs.
1- Try aging a Padron 45th 7 years. It will smoke fine but the nicotine punch and some of the main flavors are now muted. So mostly hot air.
2- No astray mouth the next morning with Cuban tobacco. NC and Dominican tobacco in tasting the next morning even after proper brushing and rinsing.
