smll2 Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 I saw the news reports when she set sail on her journey. I know very little about the sailing circut and I pray that she's okay. I have a daughter. She will be 21 in October. She is an athlete and plays Womens Volleyball in College. She's an adult women today. At 16 she was a little girl. In my opinion the parents of this little girl...allowing her to set sail on this journey borders on child abuse. They are a family of sailors and record-breakers. She's a product of her parents. She wants too please her parents by excelling like most kids. I don't think the risk here was worth the reward. As an adult on her own...she can call her own shots. As a child I don't think so. So much of parenting is protecting. Allow our kids to fail within reason...fine. This was endeavor makes no sense for such a young gal. She's in my prayers. http://www.smh.com.au/world/search-for-tee...tml?autostart=1

smll2 Posted June 11, 2010 Author Posted June 11, 2010 It's in God's hands now. I'm with you Trevor. My heart goes out to her and her family. I don't understand for the life of me how the parents allowed this.
Ken Gargett Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 saw this reported here. really hope she is okay. agree with the comments re the parents. lot of debate re that here when jessica watson set off - young teenage girl. she has made it so everyone is on the bandwagon, including the grubby pm desparate for some good press, but it could all have so easily gone wrong.
rckymtn22 Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Her parents will live with the fact that they let her try sail around the world and may have paid the price with her life for the rest of their lives.
Aficionado Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 ... I don't understand for the life of me how the parents allowed this. Who in the States has seven children? What people? Someone, has to feed this family , but she is a child. In a normal country, would not be possible, the government or the court should prohibit the trip.
El Presidente Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Located this afternoon 3200 miles off the OZ coast by a Qantas jet sent to locate her (working off her beacon). She appears fine and in good spirits. Broken mast. Fishing boat should be with her in 20 hours (she is in the middle of nowhere). She has been instructed to pack her gear and get ready to be picked up.
