Padrino Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 France down to 10 men against South Africa and 2-0 down.... what a nightmare (if you're French) This place is going nuts, I really hope SA can do it...
khomeinist Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Am enjoying the France/Uruguay match. Uruguay are growing on me after the awful match with France. Will be a tough out I think. As to South Africa/France? Too funny. What a fall from Euro 2000 or even the 2006 final.
bunburyist Posted June 22, 2010 Author Posted June 22, 2010 Done and dusted - Uruguay and Mexico go through and South Africa go out, valiantly, whilst the French depart in shame. Hopefully there won't be any Andrés Escobar-esque nonsense, but I see some retirements on the cards pretty soon.
Nino Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 "It is a morale disaster for French football. Bizarre situation. From the BBC article : "Evra has once and for all shown that he has muddled up the role of captain with that of a gang leader. Sure is a morale disaster ; and bizarre as well - you have guys playing there that, be it not for their football skills, would be either in jail or in the foreign legion and they still find it more important to find the "traitor" who leaked it to the press than making apologies. What a joke. Vive la "Farce". Pity the South Africans didn't make it to next stage - they sure deserved it.
Padrino Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 France are a joke, Domenech refusing to shake hands at the end...what a tosser. I suppose it's true when they say Karma is a *****. Oh well, at least the Irish are smiling.
laficion Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I see some retirements on the cards pretty soon. For all the responsible heads of the FFF( french football federation) in France, faster would be far better then soon.
Nino Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 France are a joke, Domenech refusing to shake hands at the end...what a tosser. I suppose it's true when they say Karma is a *****.Oh well, at least the Irish are smiling. Yep, that is some serious voodoo stuff the Irish can curse upon their foes .........
mazolaman Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I'm enjoying all the incidental stuff thats going on-like Henry, realising his name is mud due to the handball thing trying to redeem himself by trying to save the French cause.(he was a great player) and,the feeding frenzy of the English press who, every time, bugger our chances with a well timed expose(this time,John Terry, man has affair with woman, what a shocker). They then howl with indignant outrage when it all goes wrong. After a mawling by the press, the players don@t know if they need a sh*t or a haircut! Another favourite, players on teams who know they are going out,who start show boating to attract the attentions of the scouts for the big leagues. Still think Brazil will win it.
khomeinist Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Jail or foreign legion? Wow Nino. Tell us how you really feel. On a more positive note..... Argentina/Mexico and Uruguay/Korea should be a couple of great matches. I don't know which team I would prefer to be on right now...France or Nigeria. Both will receive quite the homecoming. Excellent matches on tap for tomorrow. I am hoping Ghana can do the continent proud.
mazolaman Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 tempted to put a fiver on Mexico to beat Argentina(seriously). Go Ghana!
khomeinist Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 tempted to put a fiver on Mexico to beat Argentina(seriously).Go Ghana! Ha. Well, it is too bad that Mexico got such a difficult game in the second round. I predict a very entertaining 3-1 victory for Argentina. Uruguay/Korea is a very difficult call. Korea play with such passion. I forgot how fun this side can be (2002 was a revelation).
mazolaman Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Yep,it's good to watch these attacking sides,ie South Korea and most of the South American sides play, then it is the beautiful game!
FlyingFossil Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 tempted to put a fiver on Mexico to beat Argentina(seriously).Go Ghana! I’ll take that bet thanks: D The Argies did a crappie job this morning they should of played a lot better than they did. As for Mexico Uruguay did what was expected and won a great game this morning. Good on them Now Australia has to stop pretending that one or two players are the be all and end all of the team If it had to do with star power to win I think we don’t fare that well with some of the real stars of the rest of the world Kewel and Cahill are not the saviour of the team; they are just players like the rest of them if they don’t play as a team I feel that we won’t be going to the next round. If the coach does not change the line up I’m afraid we will be annexing New Zealand as part of Australia: lol: Ps so far not one South American side has conceded a game ,must be a first
winelover Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 England have Slovenia very soon. It is at 3pm local time and luckily my employer has just sanctioned a mass walk-out so we can all go down the pub and watch it. Funnily enough there probably would have been a mutiny had my employer said no. Anyway, I think England will win 2-0 and there will be a far better performance. So far in this campaign, England have looked like rabbits in headlights and have been completely inhibited showing fright rather than the confidence that the salaries which their clubs pay them should command. Although Capello is undoubtedly a good organiser, tactician and proven manager, I think the fact that he can barely string a sentence together in English does count at this level and at this stage of the tournament. What is needed is an inspiring but calm pre-match talk by the manager that can help the players focus upon the task at hand and give them some well needed enthusiasm and confidence. Now let's see
bunburyist Posted June 23, 2010 Author Posted June 23, 2010 BAM! England and the US go through! Was in a bar watching both games and tell you what, the England game should have been 3/4-0, and the yanks had yet another perfectly good goal disallowed. Good character though to keep on for that late goal. Both teams will need to up their game whoever of Germany, Ghana and Serbia make it through from group D. Good footie today

jsd Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Not a huge soccer, sorry, futbol fan, but USA's win over Algeria was an awesome game. Only the second match I've watched this World Cup. Very excited to see the US advance. Wish I could have watched in a pub with a pint and smoke.
mazolaman Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Ps so far not one South American side has conceded a game ,must be a first Honduras have lost both of their matches.
Colt45 Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Ps so far not one South American side has conceded a game ,must be a first Honduras have lost both of their matches. Honduras is in Central America And just to say, if it had been me, I, and all my countrymen, would have been considered "geographically challenged" by a certain member who shalll remain nameless (K. Gargett) - no offense intended......
khomeinist Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 England/Germany. Should be amusing. Hopefully Capello will be smart enough to stick with the Spurs man Defoe up front. Heskey needs to strongly consider international retirement. USA/Ghana. Even match. Happy to see these sides go through. Actually Honduras is located on the North American continent. And their tournament ends Friday.
Colt45 Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Actually Honduras is located on the North American continent. Yes - obviuosly Central America is not a continent. But I'm not much for letting facts get in the way of giving a certain fellow moderator crap. (all in the spirit of good fun and camaraderie, of course )
mazolaman Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Honduras is in Central America And just to say, if it had been me, I, and all my countrymen, would have been considered "geographically challenged" by a certain member who shalll remain nameless (K. Gargett) - no offense intended...... None taken. I stand corrected. I,mistakenly, assumed that that tip of land at the bottom of the gulf of Mexico was some sort of border. It does seem a bit vague where is classed as what. Exitedly awaiting the penalty shoot out against Germany........
Kangaroo495 Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Great game by the Aussies! I got no voice this morning after that. Especially sweet considering I've got a few Serbian friends here. Gonna rub it in heavily today.
bunburyist Posted June 24, 2010 Author Posted June 24, 2010 wow - anyone see the Slovakia vs Italy match? what a final 30min..... and what a goal by Quagliarella. The last Slovak goal was pretty tasty too. Really didn't expect Italy to crash out at this stage. Bottom of their group!
partagasd4 Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 France, and now Italy at the bottom of their groups? Unbelievable!
