El Presidente Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 I have an opportunity to have some Custom Cigars rolled in Havana (I do some work while away ) This is outside of HSA and quantities are limited but I would like some input from members here as to the shape/vitola. I have tried some prototypes and they are good. I won't say great because of the fact that I need to be further involved in the blend but I think we can get them to where we want them. Think of them as a FOH "project". My thoughts are a FOH Flying Pig and a FOH Dalia. The Flying Pig will utilize a dark wrapper, the Dalia a light shiny/oily wrapper. Both are to be medium full in body, rich. I want to start with two so that as an FOH team we can get the balance right and fine tune down the track. Bundles only, no box, no band. Naked. We OK for a Flying Pig and a Dalia as our first expedition into this area? September Delivery. Would love to have your thoughts. No, I won't disclose the rollers
Colt45 Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Dalia is a great choice. Not a fan of the FP, but that's just me. If you are entertaining suggestions, my personal preference for the second size would be corona gorda. It all sounds great
ChanceSchmerr Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 I think a Dalia is an excellent idea, if you didn't have it, I would have suggested a Lonsdale, so Dalia works too! Can't wait to try these, a great idea for sure! One question - at the risk of sounding dumb...whats a Flying Pig? PS if these do well and you are looking for more sizes....may I humbly suggest a Corona and/or Panatela Larga? If Habanos SA won't settle the craving for small ring gauge cigars, could FOH fill the gap?
cellinisart Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 What taste profile do you think we might be close to? What is a flying pig? What would be a box, 25, 50, 100? I would love a CG. You have to think about us little time guys
cellinisart Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 What about age on this tobacco? Will we be looking at sitting on them for a year before a light?
reg Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 never had a flying pig nor am I sure I would be a big fan, but it is a bit unique. a flying pig is closed on both sides, not exactly sure but I think usually a pyramid or belicoso?
Bartolomeo Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Funny timing Prez, I read on another site today about a Swiss vendor who has something similar made specifically for him. I think its a great idea! I am very interested. Bart
AlohaStyle Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 One question - at the risk of sounding dumb...whats a Flying Pig? Not sure if it's anywhere else, but the only one I know of is from Drew Estate's Liga Privada series... the Flying Pig. It's 4 1/8 x 60.
AlohaStyle Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 This does sound like a great idea, good luck with everything coming out just right! I too am a fan of the Corona Gorda size, along with the Robusto and Beli. I like the idea of the Dalia, but I personally would probably not go for the Flying Pig, but that's just me.
compitaveggie Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Sounds like a great idea. A salomones would be nice down the road. Jose
toto Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Dalia would be a great start! Medium full and rich. Rob, you are making my mouth water just thinking of the possibilities. Naked bundles of half a wheel? Full wheel? I am very interested.
Guest rob Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Dalia - perfect. Would love to see something along the lines of the Figurado shaped Celestiales Fino as the second - though I understand this shape is harder to roll it would be worth the effort and expense in my mind. Put me down for 40 of each. Thankyou.
OZCUBAN Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Dalia - perfect.Would love to see something along the lines of the Figurado shaped Celestiales Fino as the second - though I understand this shape is harder to roll it would be worth the effort and expense in my mind. olotti Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Prez I think this is an awesome idea. I also like the idea of something on the med-full range with big, full, rich flavors. I'm all in for a Dalia size, Flying Pig not so much, I would go for either a Corona Gorda or a Belicoso. I do however like the figurado, RACF shape but as was stated earlier I understand it is harder to roll but how much easier is a FP with a 5x60 shape? I'll be looking forward to the outcome of this. I'm def in for some Dalias.
OZCUBAN Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Hi ROB (prez) If you need any help designing and printing our own cigar bands just let me know Cheers Oz
StumpyJoe Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Fantastic idea Prez. I'm in for the Dalia...probably would need to see the flying pig...no pun intended.
samb Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 I would be interested if its a nice, quality smoke at a price that fits my budget.
Tampa1257 Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Dalia, I believe would be a winner. I would suggest a Petit Corona size as well as a Corona Gorda size. I would NOT be interested in anything over a 50rg.
Wil Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 I'll echo everyone else on the Dalia. A corona gorda or piramide would be good...
Kangaroo495 Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 So why does Piggy get a cigar named after him?? Why not a "Flying Ken" or "Flying Smithy"?
soltino Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Dalia, I believe would be a winner.I would suggest a Petit Corona size as well as a Corona Gorda size. I would NOT be interested in anything over a 50rg. Snap Great idea Prez. Any idea of costs and quantities? :)
Vinny Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Great idea! I'll be down with the dalia and (why not) a salomone as the partagas are pretty disapointing IMHO and we need some medium to full body salomones. But I think that filling the gap of a small gauge cigar would be great, as Chanceschmerr suggested it.
dcse Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 A dalia and a panatela larga would be just perfect. An old style cigar blend that stands against blends used for the i.e. Monte Open line would be great. One colorago claro and one maduro.
