Hello gentlefolk,

Gary (ironpeddler) outed my big change and so here I am to elaborate a bit. Thanks, my friend. :devil2:

In the last few weeks, I finished tied up most loose ends in my doctoral research and got the grant team buzzing in the field work and data gathering at a dozen childcare centers and preschools. I knew the end was coming, but like most soon-to-be graduates, I despaired at finding work in this economy. Around the end of last year, a job posting was put out by a Swedish technology company. I had gotten on their mailing list because the million-dollar grant I landed for a research proposal based on my dissertation was awarded allowing me to buy one of their testing devices. Long story short, I answer the call and shortly thereafter came the phone interview and then the in-person interview. Job seekers know that you are always in some kind of hellish limbo during this process. Then I found out I was against one other guy, also from the educational field. But I put on my best game and ended up prevailing.

Our whole family was relieved and elated as were the grandparents. In this day, to find a job, much less one that makes the best of your experience and training and with a great, up and coming company is like a blessing from heaven. And so here I am, in an apartment in Fairfax, Virginia typing away. I wake up, go to work, kick some ass, and come home to my computer, simple food, and a Skype with my family and stories with my girls. Since we wanted our older daughter to finish her first grade year in familiar environs, I came down here to start working and establish a beach head while my wife starts the work of getting our house ready to sell. It's our hope that we will be in a new house here before the start of the new year. Until then, it's a bit of a lonely bachelor's existence.

I hope that I'll get a chance to meet up with some of the locals. I did bring a few cigars and with the warm weather and a private patio, I'm ready to get busy.

So that's it in a nutshell. I'm grateful for where life has brought us. Sometimes the road seems long, with no end in sight, but this shows that good can happen.

BTW, I expect to be able to participate more here now. Well, after I get back from a week in Sweden at the home office and 3 days in the Big Apple. They're running me hard, but it's great to feel productive.

Cheers,

Wilkey

Congratulations on your success! It is great to see a scholar persevere and find a way to use their skills, whether in academia or elsewhere. I hope that your new employer will utilize all of your assets to their fullest and that besides doing a great job, you can continue to grow intellectually. That is the path of a scholar.

I come to the D.C. area frequently for business, I will let you know when I am in the area.

Alrighty,

Now onto the important question. Favorite cigar shop. Best place to meet for a drink and a smoke?
