anacostiakat Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 I would have thought Asia would have been a larger percentage.
ucla695 Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Great information! No surprise to see robustos up on the list.
thechenman Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Thanks for the information...some interesting tidbits here.
Mel Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Jose L. Piedra???????????? I have never smoked one. I rarely hear of them but they are that big in the world market? Who is smoking them? What special appeal do they have? I am also surprised to see Bolivar and Ramon Allones so far down on the list.
Bartolomeo Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Suckling had an Blog on this last night, thanks for sharing with us I was surprised about the Jose L Piedra Bart
Tampa1257 Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Interesting to Note, that 45% of sales in 2009 were cigars that were a 42 ring gauge or below. Seems like the public is speaking with their wallets and buying what is selling (Thin Ring Gauge).
Spud2 Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Jose Piedra's are a cheap good smoke($3 to 4), so I'm not surprised to see them high on the list. What is surprising is the lack of fat ringed cigars that Habanos has been shoving at us in the form of LE's and RE's. Also Churchills don't score high either!
mkz Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Interesting to Note, that 45% of sales in 2009 were cigars that were a 42 ring gauge or below. Seems like the public is speaking with their wallets and buying what is selling (Thin Ring Gauge). And yet all those donkey-dongs keep coming out from havanna... Thanks for posting the numbers Aficionado!!
Jimmy2 Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Again as i have said the cheaper cigars have been selling more because of the bad economy. But when it gets better it will change HSA knows this and is why they have made the changes they needed these past couple of years to stay with the changing times its long over due.
stargazer14 Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 As stated, this is very interesting. It sure goes against what one would expect if asked to tally it up on your own.
Kangaroo495 Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 I think the JLP's are one of the most popular cigars in South America which is why they sell so much.
Smooth Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Again as i have said the cheaper cigars have been selling more because of the bad economy. But when it gets better it will change HSA knows this and is why they have made the changes they needed these past couple of years to stay with the changing times its long over due. Sorry Jimmy, I disagree here... How do you explain Cohiba accounting for such high figures? And I may stand corrected but I think Cohiba's % share has grown. Dont you think they have been pumping out MORE super premiums recently as the revenue generated per unit is higher and thats why they have been focusing their limited and shrinking resources on these new releases? Jose L Piedra have always been huge sellers. Forgive me if I have not expressed myself clearly, its late here
samb Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 Interesting info. Of course we'll never know for sure, I kinda wonder what the percentages are for the US sales of habanos, lol. Probably close to Western Europes.
jsaunders9 Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 Interesting info. Of course we'll never know for sure, I kinda wonder what the percentages are for the US sales of habanos, lol. Probably close to Western Europes. That brings up a question in my mind, what percentage will the US make up when (and if) the embargo is lifted?
phxkev Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 I read sales of CCs were down 8 percent. Due at least partially to price increases?
