jsaunders9 Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Hello all, Looking for some input on P2's. I bought the balance of a box of 10 from my tabbaconist in the summer with a date of 05. These smoke beautifully, perfect burn, draw, and construction. So I decided to always have some on hand and started replacing them with singles from the same tabbaconist as I smoke them. Problem is, the new singles have horrible burn and an overly tight draw despite massaging. I believe the box I'm getting the new singles from is an 08. I'm heading to Cuba next week and a box of these is on my short list. I know by the FOH video review that the '09 are smoking great. Can anyone comment on the 08's or other years to avoid in the P2? Thanks in advance!
lemmycaution Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 I actually just smoked a TEB 08 this afternoon. It was very good in flavor and contruction. My experience with these is limited, but I smoked this one until it burned my fingers.
Ken Gargett Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 i've found these reasonably consistent and i would not avoid the 08s just on this. i wonder if he is selling singles as a lesser box or not stored well. you can buy plenty of singles in cuba so try a cople to see if you still feel the same way.
Tampa1257 Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 My experience with the P2 is that when they have been properly stored, they have an excellent burn and the flavors have been spot on. Over humified or under humidified and the cigar has developed construction and burn problems. I agree with Ken, when you are in Cuba, pick up several singles and try them, if you like them, pick up a box.
LiLo Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 It's a pretty new vitola. I think it's only been around for like 4 or 5 years. I have had some from 06, 07, 08 and recently 09 and they have all been fabulous. I keep my cigars at a steady 65/65 so every one i have smoked has been at an ideal humidity for cubans IMO. I would definitely pick up a box and bring them home and let them sit for a few weeks and get acclimated and i'm confident you will like what you smoke.
Buch0 Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 I have also had plenty of 08's that smoked as expected, spot on. These are one of my favourite cigars, Partagas spice with cinnamon and barely sugar. You have just been unlucky by the sounds of things mate, keep at them.
jsaunders9 Posted March 1, 2010 Author Posted March 1, 2010 True enough guys, maybe I hit a bad box. I'll def give em a try in Cuba and see how it goes. Thanks for the help!
OZCUBAN Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Hi All I had my first one on friday night my first ever (believe it or not)love the S/D #4,and from what i hear these are even better. Got it out, cut it, then tried to smoke, virtually impossible,at first thought it was plugged, but have come to the opinion that they were overfilled ,came out of a box of ten ,maybe smoked to soon ,maybe it was the one bad one out of the box (you know its a Cuban thing ) Hoping it was the only one ,needless to say it was tossed ,i hate when you get a bad one Didn't bother after that lost interst Will see how the rest of the box goes Cheers Oz
stargazer14 Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 maybe its just me, but - I have found Partagas to be sensitive to temp & humidity. So maybe it just wasnt being smoked on a good day! Maybe.
BigGuns Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 I've smoked several P2 tubos since they came out last year and have enjoyed every single one of them. I have a 25box (PSP - TEB May 08) that's been marinating in my winedor for several months that I can't wait to crack in May to celebrate my son's birthday. They look and smell excellent. I hope they smoke that way, too...
Van55 Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 For those of you recommending that the OP pick up some singles in Cuba, what about the often-stated "wisdom" that buying single cigars in Cuba, even a factory or LCDH stores, is a great way to buy counterfeits? I haven't been there, but several guys who have have posted this over the years.
Mel Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Good luck mate finding good P2. I have never had one any better than a fair cigar. I have smoked Monte #2 that blew all over the Partagas. I do not believe the P2 exhibit a true Partagas flavor profile and are the bastard children of the line. Do yourself a favor man and pick up a nice BBF.
