Bartolomeo Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 -Got a box of these from Czar -These have always been hit/miss with me, thus is why the Upmann #2 and VR Unicos are my go-to smokes in this size, that being said, if you can get a great Monte #2, its pure bliss -Wrapper had some nice oil spots on it, well constructed and dry boxed for 3 days -Its starting to snow here so I might have to move to higher ground -Initial puffs are chocolate, cream and leather -Pre draw was leather -Profile is Light in the 1/3, with coffee, very light crème and cocoa -Smoking slow to try and bring out the flavors, cigar shows signs of flavors coming and going, not as smooth as an aged #2 in flavor transition -Ashes look like pieces of RoLo candy, tight, barreled chunks, Grey in color -Touch of an un-even burn that quickly corrects itself, draw is perfect, dry boxing did this cigar some good -2/3 continues with the cocoa, coffee and cream and now cedar -Enjoying this cigar a lot but potential is there for years down the road -Loads of Monte coffee/cream/cocoa have been present since lit -8.9/10 with a potential of 9.1/10 easily in 5 years Bart
ColKurtz Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Thanks for the review Bart. I've yet to have a Monte #2 that I thought was "the benchmark." Guess I'll keep trying though....
Wil Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Thanks for the review. My interest has been piqued in these as I had my first good one last night. Didn't get much cream, but a very nice espresso coffee and slightly bitter dark chocolate. Very nice smoke! Looking forward my next!
stargazer14 Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Definitely a hit or miss cigar, but always the try!
