Been reading this forum for years, just became a member of the forum. This is the first time on here I've read something where tensions have ran so high. It seems as though this is what the Monte Open does to people. Just doesn't have enough nicotine to calm the mood.

Nice review--I like getting a sense of what the reviewer's palate is in the review as it puts the review into context for me.

As a new Cuban cigars smoker, I'll probably pass on the Opens as there is so much to try out there, but in a strange way, now my curiosity is peaked to see what the fuss is about. Kinda like when someone says 'ugh, smell this'--the first inclination is to stay away but if one person says 'hmm, I like it,' I'm always the type of person who has to see for himself :-)

And kudos to the forum--respect really is what makes this place special.

I think the ultimate message in this thread/review and all the others is that while there will always be differences of opinion when it comes to various Cuban cigars, the important thing is to smoke what you like, regardless of what others think. It does not matter if the majority dislikes the Monte Open...if Garyf likes them, then he should smoke them and we should all respect that...and I believe that we do...regardless of our personal feelings as those opinions are directed at the cigar and not garyf.

I actually intend on trying some or all of the Open line myself at some point this year

I have tried the open line. I didn't mind the master and the regata. The eagle was the worst Piece of Sh*t i have ever tasted. All in all this line just doesn't have much to it. Not very complex or interesting. Its not even that the flavors are bad, they just aren't exciting at all.
