Decided to review the PLP this week, his box was purchased on my way to Toronto two months ago, I needed a box of Panatelas but none looked good. I settled on the box with the best aroma, but I have to say that these are UGLY. The first 2 cigars out of this box were very good, especially considering what they look like and the freshness.
Had a few errands in town, so before leaving, I grab a PLP and head out, punching the cap on my way out the door, pre-light was all toasted tobacco and some dry hay, nothing much really. lit the cigar as I got in the car and drove off. initial impressions are hints of caramel in the pan, dry hay and another flavor I cannot distinguish right now.
1st Third:
So far so good, Caramel has somewhat faded and the sweetness is now gone, the last two were better. At this point the flavors lean more towards earthiness and dry hay. Smoke output is good, draw is perfect and burn is straight, but does not hold much.
2nd third:
Caramel is back, but darker, some sweetness but leaning more towards burnt caramel. harshness is ramping up, but these cigars are fresh, very fresh. Dry hay is still there, but this cigar is taking a turn for the worst.
last third:
The last third surprised me a bit, the burnt caramel turned a little more mellow, the sweetness came back in waves and the harshness subsided a bit. erth and sry hay still in the background. Nothing great, but filled the afternoon as I ran my errands.
The first two from this box were quite better and the flavors somewhat different. These are my winter smokes, so will revisit around Christmas see how they are doing. Rating of about 82, enjoyed it but not a great PLP. Will smoke a Montecarlo next week to compare, the PLP does not stand a chance as the MCs have much better wrappers and they are good.
