Here in The Blue Mountains, Ontario, Canada, bars have “Open Mike Night” throughout the week in the different towns, on different nights. The bars are restaurants too and the food is fantastic. Two of them, one here and one twenty minutes away are so good, I board my dog Blue on Wednesday and have a standing reservation. But last night was different. It was Thursday at The Crow Bar and Variety in Collingwood, Ontario . I will let the pictures tell the rest! That’s bourbon of course. The couple with halos brought me the present. CB

Rainer & Marled are friends from my village in Germany. Rainer smokes with us at the pharmacy and Marled takes cooking classes with my wife. Both have a passion to travel, a love that became fulfilled when they left East Germany right after the crumbling of the Berlin wall. Being surrounded by a wall gives you the urge to travel freely. So they are familiar with all the socialist BS you encounter in Cuba. A few years back they were in Havana briefly before starting a holiday in Varadero and I arranged for them to see some spots, buy cigars and a tour to the Vuelta Abajo. They liked Havana so much that they decided to do it again but with more time and they wanted me to show them my Havana and introduce them to my friends and my way of life there. Which is what I did. A perfect Portmann Week-End We, Frank and I, were surprised to learn that it was not going to be the small, uncomplicated affair we expected, but a "Portmann Havana Group Reunion" dinner at a Michelin rated restaurant in St Gallen / Switzerland. Oh well, worse things can happen in life ... Like the traffic jam we saw on our way down, stretching basically for three-quarters of the way but fortunately on the opposite direction. We arrived on time for a glass of champagne and a Robusto at Portmann Cigars in Kreuzlingen, then just a quick pick up of the hotel key, no changing, and off to St Gallen and the highly rated "Segreto" - a one star Michelin restaurant belonging to the Abacus software group.
