Is the truth important?
Matt Day replied to 99call's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
Agreed I would say that although g it was made nearly forty years ago the TV sereis Yes Minister and yes prime minister shows exactly what politicians are. They are puppets who curry or court or fear the press and in a way that is most beneficial to them and they will only resign if they have no other choice. -
what is your worst habit when it comes to Cigars? Thought this would be a bit of fun considering there are stories about cutting cigars in half? Mine is to take an urgent phone call forget about the cigar and have to relight when the call is finished.

Montecristo media corona
Matt Day replied to Viva Vegas's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
I'd go monte 13 4 5 if you want something in a bigger format along the same lines. These are definitely great though same with the upmann half corona for those time pressed moments. -
Hello all just wondering if i can pick your brains with some humidor tips and suggestions. I am not entirely new to all this but have come back to cigars after a long hiatus driven by being bored during the current lockdown. I currently own the below 100 cigar capacity humidor in the past this has been more than enough for my needs . For the medium term i intended to keep on using this as my primary humidor but in the longer term i am planning to use it for singles and the last couple of of cigars from boxes. The four humidifiers don't look to be in the best of shape they are around 10 years old. what would you all recommend as replacements? Are there any particular good ones on the markets that are highly recommended? Any suggestions for digital thermometers would also be appreciated as the one i used to use is knackered and i don't trust the one on the front. In the Longer term i would be interested in getting something with around a ten box storage capacity can anyone suggest any handy guides etc into the various options? i am quite interested in the wine cooler option however as i have two jobs would like to find out what i am getting into while i am considering the options. Many thanks, Matt

Forced Cigar Substitutions .........
Matt Day replied to El Presidente's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
for me its Bolivar Corona Extra as i like Corona and love Bolis so ive bee smoking Boli no 1's although sadly the blend of the No 1 is not as good as the BCE blend, If only the no1 had been deleted and the extra released in a tubo versoin. Although I think HSA have been right to cut duplicate cigars from lines the rationalisation has gone too far and a better consultation with customers and keeping some cigars on limited production aka made very three years could have been a better result. -

the future is full of hope after all it is going to get worse before it gets better. For one these puritans are tenacious in their aims. The more they peddle their morality the closer they come to their own undoing. One just has to look at what’s happening with a certain other green plant which is also burnt to see what the future holds. Also they are now starting on fast food and alcohol which are far more culturally engrained than tobacco this may just be the straw which breaks the camel’s back. -
It seems that everywhere in the developed world we are experiencing a death by a thousand cuts by over taxation. However there is a cause for hope and in a way things can only get better although they may not seem so for quite a while. Firstly prohibition and the creation of exorbitant duties never work and the only individuals who ever benefit in the long run are organised crime and smugglers and may even cause a revolution when a tipping point is reached on a broad scale. We may be heading to puritan health despotism but eventually this will change when it is finally realised that the war cannot be won, although this may take a long time it will happen.

If so that is regrettable as I would suspect the reason why h and f has so many of these undesirable boxes is mainly due to the uk tax rate and the bad years of the early 2000s as after all who in their right mind is going to buy boxes at uk prices if they’re available cheaper elsewhere and from better years. -
Consequences of strict tobacco law
Matt Day replied to dB69's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
+ 2 personally I won’t buy any more than singles or minis here the cost is just to high. And it’s a shame its nice to go to a local shop and see what they have but boxes and multiple sticks are just too expensive at uk prices -
Discontinuation rumors
Matt Day replied to ramon_cojones's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
Curious sad if the rasscc is definitely out however there is a lot of speculation flying around atm the moment then these could be deletions being discussed or whatever. I am not holding out hope, just saying probably best to wait till it has finally been announced. -
Hi I tend to keep any minis I have in a spare small travel humidor while they’re not going to develop any form of complexity aging them for a month or two in my view can help to smoothen out some of the harshness particularly if you get a dud box which are extremely harsh. I don’t age them myself for any real length of time intentionally but tend to buy four boxes of ten at once and if there is a dud box it will get left for awhile to see if it does any good.

Discontinuation rumors
Matt Day replied to ramon_cojones's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
It would be crazy to discontinue the partagas 898 and rascc in particular. I am just hoping these are wild rumours; if not what does that leave the regular line up of ra with the gigantes and the rass. I just don’t see the point of doing that to ra it’s been getting plenty of re and le of late why not use these to revitalise the line rather than cutting? And as for deleting the 898 why ? the box codes are all fairly recent if this is a deletion I just hope this is a packaging deletion rather than a full blown deletion. If so were just going to end up with cohibacristo fatties -
Cigar Number 3: FOH Blind Tasting!
Matt Day replied to El Presidente's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
Sorry all mislaid my review notes to had to write this from memory from sevral days ago somewhere but here is just a very quick summary 1st third cream grass cinnamon White chocolate stone fruits cocoa Pepper finish 93 -
The fuel is cheap to produce the fact is that it is so overtaxed in the uk and taxed twice duty then vat this is the cause of the price not so much the price of production rather the tax as a country we are mugs letting the gov tax as much as we do. Im personally thankful that I don’t drive or need to as even with our ludicrously high train fairs over here the price of the majority of journeys is now beating the price it would cost me I fuel alone its just a case of playing the crazy ticketing system.

Just a quick review on this stick Sadly my example got a bit battered in the post but after a few repairs ti was fine Draw good not loose but not tight either so excellent on that department The first third on this stick opened up straight onto some bitter lemon pepper and then continued through on coffee ranging from milky to sweet The second third the coffee died down to milk coffee for a while and what I describe as coffee cream with the peer returning to varying degrees towards the end of the third Final third more pepper some dark coffee and spice predominately 91 I’m disregarding the damage due to it having taken place during shipment would buy a box further on the Brightside my Churchill and corona gorada came through in perfect condition so nice to get the damaged stick out of the way first.
