  1. I bought a box in December, and the varnish smell from the box and coffins was incredibly overpowering! Took the cigars out of the box and placed them in my humidor, where they’ve been resting ever since. I’ve had the box - which is beautiful - airing out in an open room for almost four months, and it still reeks of the intense chemical / varnish smell. The cigars are in cellophane, so am hopeful the varnish smell didn’t taint them. I’m giving them at least six months out of that varnish hell-hole before I smoke one.
  2. Thanks so much for doing this blog; what an incredible resource!
  3. Congrats to you and the team! Looking forward to smoking some of these beauties!
  4. I would bring: Upmann Royal Robusto 2013 Lusi 2019 BBF 2016 PLPC 2014 Siglo IV 2016
  5. Monty Maltes, OCT 2018, RUM factory code
  6. Both are great shows, with superb story and acting, but BCS is certainly more of a slow burn.
  7. I’ve given away lots of cigars to friends, but have never sold. A friend who is in the business got me a box of Padron 60th anniversary and sold it to me at his cost, and that’s what I’ve done when selling wine to friends over the years. I had to do some mental gymnastics on a few occasions. My cost in 2001 was a lot less than market value today, but as long as they follow the same rule, it’s all good.
  8. Summer of 2021, reading Frank Vincent’s book, and two of his recommendations were the Davidoff Double R and Padron 1964. So those were my first cigars that I purchased and smoked; my minimal experience with cigars before that had been those handed to me by friends etc. I much preferred the Padron. First Cubans were the Monte 2 and BBF, and I much preferred the Bolivar…bought a box each and that kept me occupied for a while. By years end I had purchased a large cabinet humidor. 2022 - mid 2024 was 90% Padron 1926 and Family Reserve Naturals, and then discovered the Upmann Royal Robusto. I have been traveling down the Cuban cigar rabbit hole ever since.
  9. Best wishes - hope the electricity stays on, and everyone is safe and dry.
  10. 2013 H. Upmann Royal Robusto. Halfway through the box, and they have all been amazing!
  11. I’ll echo the BRC…when I first began dabbling in Cuban cigars, I expected it to be more along the lines of the BBF, and was quite surprised!
  12. Wow, thank you so much for the detailed response. Upon closer inspection (in a dark room with my readers on) the faint blue UV coat of arms on the seal is visible. The faint blue UV is a first for me; all the other seals in my humidor have the bright green.
  13. Thanks for the info! I bought them from a “trusted vendor” but now I’m regretting it. I haven’t come across any inner boxes without the UV coat of arms on the seal before these. Although the post you shared states pretty bluntly that the UV features are going away. Cuba!
  14. I purchased two 5x5 boxes of Siglo III, with an Oct 23 Box date. The outer boxes both have a UV coat of arms on the seal, but most of the inner boxes of 5 do not have the UV coat of arms on the seal. I added a photo for reference. Only the 1 box has the UV seal, and yes I took the individual boxes out an inspected them. All of my other Cohiba inner boxes (only a handful) have the UV coat of arms. Thoughts?
  15. I didn’t realize they were the fabled Tang Monarcas until I saw El Presidente’s post last week.
