  1. Ended up in a rural city in Japan…and found myself in a decent bar.
  2. Wait - am I the only one wanting the window? Damned if they’re waking me up from my ambien induced time travel. That and every damn person walking by seems to smash into my shoulders too, and the person in the next seat seems to need to use the bathroom every half hour as well. I’m holing myself next to the walls and checking out until it’s almost time to land.
  3. Had my last one in November from a 21 NOV box. Great out of the gate, mild creamy caramel notes true to PL. For me they’re pretty good but I can see them getting better with more time down to let the sweeter notes develop more.
  4. There was a post a while back where somebody basically rewrapped a cigar with rolling papers (or so I remember it that way). Due to being careless, I’ve dropped my fair share of cigars, and usually a dab or two of cigar glue and a bit of rest seems to do the trick. @NSXCIGAR do you store your glue in the humidor? I’ve had the same bottle for a number of years now kept in the humidor (well, tupperdor) and it doesn’t seem to be drying up at all.
  5. I’ve used these for tissue punches. Usually inexpensive if you buy them by the box from a scientific supply store, but honestly a cigar punch is probably made of a metal that holds an edge better. but, in case you get tempted to mutilate yourself whilst having a cigar, this Amazon listing could give you ideas for other uses: https://www.amazon.com/Punches-Piercing-Stainless-Disposable-Sterilized/dp/B09YP8MJZ9
  6. The women are no different. Everything’s a trinket if you’re wealthy and shitty enough of a human.
  7. Smoked oysters and mussels are definitely always in our pantry. I try to find local makers, but Ekone Oyster company from Washington state makes very good smoked shellfish worth the price.
  8. Pretty sure every online retailer of cigars has the disclaimer against the customer “experience”. For a customer with 20+ years relationship, maybe could have been offered credit by the retailer, but in these times I imagine that the new customer base/demand lets retailers cut relationships pretty quickly, unless they’re an absolute whale.
  9. Hopefully they can succeed the 2015/16 Blue Jays record - they’re certainly a more dynamic team now, and so fun to watch again. The rotation is definitely suspect, but if they can click, they’re definitely going to have a good run this year.
  10. The guys that are smart pitchers are really going to be able to exploit the new rules too. It’s not just offense that’s getting the benefits, and I think there’s going to be even more of a difference in the quality of pitchers with the rule changes. great video of breaking down how Max Scherzer is approaching the new rules:
  11. I have a 2019 box that was a bit ho hum when I first got it, but after three years down the aforementioned floral, herbaceous, or sometimes perfume (reminiscent of potpourri) came out a lot more. In my limited experience, these and others that are known to have a more refined blend tend to need a bit more time down before they shine.
  12. You could nitrous oxide from a whip-it/cream dispenser to flush the air in a bag prior to sealing. Not sure what effect it would have on aging, but if your aim is to slow things down, it probably wouldn’t hurt.
  13. It’s going to be a lean time in the CC world after they run out of leaf they’re rolling now. If they’ve lost crops that were curing last year, barns aren’t up and they’re losing the very farmers and rollers making the products, can’t imagine supply will be returning to prepandemic levels anytime in the next 5-10 years.
  14. I had no idea Habanos made you change the name of your brick and mortar to “Monkey bar and lounge”
  15. Line of the year right there.
  16. RAE JUN 15 PSD5 were my first box of CC. Got me hooked. for more recent collectors, SOU and BSM Trinidads (among other marcas) have been the best of the bunch.
  17. I think that’s called “connecting with nature” these days. My two year old loves nature.
  18. I’m at my folks in Canada, and the forecast said it felt like -24C (-11F) the other day. No way I’m going out for even a purito in this weather.
  19. If you’re describing anything using sensory inputs, then narrative information makes perfect sense to set the stage for what is inevitably going to be guided by expectation biases. A product like a cigar that encompasses so much history, so many hands, so much aging and development needs to be framed to experience it with the full appreciation for how it got to you. Without the narrative, it’s just a bundle of dried leaves and a great flavor profile. For me, with the background narrative you can appreciate not just the momentary sensory experience, but all the intangibles that go into making that moment.
  20. Xander to SD is super interesting to me. Maybe the Friars are sick of Tatis Jrs antics and went and got them a reliable guy for SS instead. Stick him in the OF and call it a day.
  21. Isn’t the French thing more like proposing (in a theoretical world where the US has high speed rail networks already set up) not allowing flights between NYC and DC? Amtrak takes 3.5 hours - but a proper high speed rail could cover that route in less than 1.5 hours while making a brief stop in Philly. Tokyo-Osaka is about the same distance from SF to LA, and the Shinkansen covers it in 2.5 hours. Seems pretty reasonable, although with the car culture in the US, it’s just not set up to facilitate the end to end rail trip. Might be a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things, but it’s a step in the right direction nonetheless.
  22. Could have waited a few hours and had their hat trick moment. Can’t help but think a few of these must have somehow found their way to the VVIPs in Qatar.
  23. QdO Coronas Claros TUA MAY 21. I think it’s been 6 months since I had the first, starting to shine. Will probably revisit next summer.
