New regulation for Oz cigar lovers
rxavier1979 replied to El Presidente's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
So I’m guessing now they’ll look to increase the taxes further in order to fund the govt overhead in terms of regulating the growing black market too? Kidding aside, good luck to you all in getting by amidst these regulations. -
New regulation for Oz cigar lovers
rxavier1979 replied to El Presidente's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
What’s driving this in Australia? My knowledge of Australian current events is quite poor (aside from what I learned from Bill Bryson). Is it a health mandate (assuming cigarettes are the real intended target), or more control on tax revenue? -

I second this notion. My wife loves Papaya for breakfast in the morning. I hate it!! Smells like dirty socks... -
What would you buy?
rxavier1979 replied to shadowACE's topic in Cigars Discussion Forum "the water hole"
I’d say PLPC for your winter months but I’m assuming whatever you’d get now wouldn’t be smoked in the near term. Usher in the spring with Punch Punch or JL No 2. I’m really loving those two right now and both at about 200. Add a pack of cohiba shorts for the winter. My winters are like your late spring so I don’t worry so much about time outside. -

I personally would try to find 2 boxes of Ramon Allones Club Allones and get 2 boxes before they are extinct and gone forever. That’s my ATF so far along with the Punch Punch. -

How many cigars per day?

Usually 1 per day but 5-6 per week. I'll usually skip a day or two to appease my wife. -

Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads out there! This is how I choose to celebrate on one of the very few days out of the year where I don't get cockeyed looks for stepping out for a morning smoke while not off on vacation... Party E2 SOM AGO 16 Needs a little more time down but decent flavors and noticeable improvements from back in March when I first lit one up. Wonky burn on this one but nothing I can't handle. It's almost like a severely diluted D4 and not in a bad way. Flavor intensity is more like the HdM E2. I like where it's going. Very nice, slow burn. I could see how 3 years rest would make this a great cigar. -

My car is the one in black. My buddy is a bit of a photography geek and insisted on this session. His is the red one. -

This morning I smoked a Por Larrañaga Petit Corona that I had from Rob's New to Cubans Sampler that I got last year in October. I'd actually received two of them because I also got a different sampler which had some included. The first one I tried may be a few weeks after I receive the sampler was pretty disappointing, so I dismissed it thinking this is just one of the marcas that maybe just does not agree with my palate. I also remember watching the reviews on FOH where they said these need some time down. So I gave one away to one of my buddies that was at my house one night and left the other in the bottom of my humidor to rest. Since then, I've smoked my way through quite a number of Petit Coronas including the Boli, H. Upmann, Part Shorts and decided that maybe I just don't like Habanos PCs and left it at that. Well this morning I made myself a coffee and decided to give my last PLPC a shot since I was in the mood for a morning Cuban with coffee. I am dumbfounded with how tasty this Cigar has become in such little time. I loved it so much that I forgot to drink my coffee and nearly burned the inside of my fingers as I was nubbing. This is why I now exclusively look to Rob's expertise and insight when buying Habanos. What sucks is that my box split buddy here in town has already asked me to cool it on the small and skinnies as he is a 50+ RG aficionado almost exclusively and I see that these only come in 50 cabs... I'm torn now on springing for a PSP box of these or the Punch Punch. First world problems at it's best! ?? To me the problem with a great Cuban is like a good picture opportunity. If you like it, you better go ahead and take it because it probably won't be there next time. But once you take it and lock it away into your humidor, it's there for you to enjoy as you see fit. Rant complete. -
I just realized later after my post that they had three wrapper options for this release. Which one is your fav? I loved that Cojonu so much and couldn't get it out of my head so I lit up the black label Lancero later last night. Good. Not as good as the one with the Sumatra for me. I'd order a box but I want to try the Habano first to make sure this one is the belle of the ball for me. Based on what you're telling me, it looks like I'll be smoking the TAA tonight and hunting down that 7th capa especial tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestions!

Based on what everybody has been saying about Tatuaje on this thread and the fact that I have very limited experience with them (a few smoked when I first started with cigars and my palate was very unrefined), I decided to get a nice spread to sample from Stogies herein Houston. I picked up a couple of the tatuaje black labels(1 in Lancero), the TAA for 2016, the Cojonu 2012 and a store exclusive for stogies which is a Lancero blended by tatuaje. O M G. The Cojonu 2012 is so flavorful, complex and smooth. I'm blown away so far... this Cigar is absolutely box-worthy! Thank you guys for the inspiration to go out and try them again.

Good catch. I stand corrected. I definitely smoke 50s, it's just nice to see when someone blends towards the 44-46 RG as I gravitate towards them. Ill try almost anything once though.

This Bushido started off a bit dull with Woody flavors being the dominant flavor. Burn was phenomenal. Once this cigar hit the second third it really came alive and brought around some sweetness to wrap around those woody undertones. Phenomenal Cigar at this point. Pairs perfectly with my cheap Cabernet. Given the price point, not sure I would be hawkish one more of these even if they were to be found. But that has more to do with my budget then my taste. -

It hurts seeing that... -
Is that you Surgeon??? Holy crap, I listen to your podcasts every week!!! Great seeing you on here if that's really you!!! BTW, You're the reason I made a dent on my Club Allones box over the weekend... I need to get more now...

Yeah, Kyle Gellis of Warped has made it known that he blends cigars in the "smaller RG". Knowing that smaller RG is subjective, he says he doesn't plan on making any cigars beyond a 48. However, he wouldn't be the first nor the last to adjust their business model if the market dictates it...

I smoked a Warped MDT lonsdale today after being disappointed by a Boli CG today. Maybe I'm crazy but I could swear that in the second third The flavors were very reminiscent of a RA Club Allones. It was only the second third but wow, that was awesome. I definitely need to add to my stock of RA CA before they disappear forever. Smoke this one yesterday and OMG...

Dramatically less pepper/spice, more medium-body cigars, smaller ring gauge on average (although this is trending to larger RG recently), and I find them to have very unique flavors that are not found in other non-Cuban tobaccos. Generally I find that you have to be more mindful on the cigars youth in Cubans than in NCs as they may spend less time in aging rooms and on the shelf before finding their way into your humidor. Always try to buy at least two of each if you can to sample as consistency sometimes is off and may affect your experience. Have fun! If you are not new to Cigar's then this will open up a new experience and increase your interest in the world of cigars by opening up a new world to explore.

I just had to add that there's been a third transition to the Punch. Everything I mentioned above transitioned into a slight wood based undertone and then back into more light coffee notes with a very slight caramelized sweetness and the slightest up tick of strength (pleasant) at the end. I need to find more ALO 16 Punch Punch pronto!!! That is the problem with CCs! When they're awesome, I know I need to buy a box of it and capture that goodness.
